Our subdivision has a big bass pond. I saw some of my neighbors walking around on it this morning

They only went out a few feet and were being very careful. Still, pretty crazy. I've never seen a pond freeze overnight in Alabama

I grew up on a small lake in Alabama and can remember it freezing over one winter when I was a kid. May have been that ice storm in 82. I just remember my mom and dad freaking out telling us kids not to walk on it.

i'm too young to remember it but the ice storms in 82-85 were supposedly epic.

I was barely 7 years old the last major ice storm I experience in January 1982 in West Central Alabama. Ice storms are rare here and we are WAY WAY overdue for one. Snow is rare but MUCH more common. That January 82 ice storm was crazy. Temps were very similar to what they have been the last couple of day (High temps in the low 20s and lows in the single digits/low teens) except we had a steady overnight rain that fell into that air. The neighborhood I grew up in was dominated by pine trees and the ice in the limbs was caked on so thick branches were coming down all over the place. My neighborhood was fortunate that our power lines were buried and we almost never lost power and didn't lose power during what was a bad ice storm.

That's what I remember most about that ice storm. The pine trees snapping and falling all night. My brother and I got out that next day and every street in the neighborhood had a tree or limbs across it. Miraculously only one house that I remember was damaged by trees or limbs.

We were without power for a week.

All I remember is 1993. I was 7 years old, and it snowed in Florida. For a lot of people I knew growing up, that's still the only time they've ever seen snow.

i don't know how it is for you guys but the lack of precipitation this go round has been the saving grace. i'd love to have a snow day with the kids, but something in the 20's would be more tolerable than this.

I was a senior in high school during the 93 blizzard. It was fun as shite the first couple of days, but that snow stuck around for over a week, and we were without power most of that week. It sucked once all your clothes were wet and you had to sit inside by the fireplace.

This cold has been so bad it made my inner fratstar quit. I wore a hoodie today for the first time since I was in high school.

We went to Lowe's and bought an outdoor firepit for when we let the dogs out.

i can't remember if it was 93 or later in the 90's but I was on a debate trip in Amarillo and one of the blizzards flew in and stranded us there for three days. our hotel was by an open HS Stadium with a grassy hill going to the top of the bleachers, and a huge parking lot.

the coach just told us to go enjoy ourselves.
