SEC Network question

This may be Germans, but does anybody know how the coming new SEC Network is going to impact coverage by other networks of our favorite SEC teams? I guess my real question is will the SEC Network put CBS' SEC Game of the Week out of business? I hope, I hope, I hope...

So wait...CBS will have first choice on SEC games over the SEC Network? Yay TV deals that make sense...

Nothing is changing with CBS. The SEC Network is obviously a partnership with ESPN, so some of the games you'd typically see on ESPN/2/U will just be on the SEC Network instead.

Of course. How is the SEC going to make gobs of money giving the best games to themselves?

If anything it may increase it with the Baseball and Basketball coverage.

quote:Ok, but how does this really make the SEC Network sort of "exclusive" to the SEC? It was my impression that the bulk and best of the SEC games would be aired on this network. If CBS has a hand in snatching out the pick of the litter every week, then I'm not sure what that does to the "exclusivity." Maybe that idea was just my own wishful thinking. I haven't seen anything that really describes what the SEC Network will be doing, other than "It's coming in 2014" tv commercials.

They will. CBS gets one game a week. That's it.

quote:A couple of ways, possibly. They might make this a pay per view channel like the BiG Network does. I haven't heard they weren't going to do that. Then they will rake up on subscriber revenues and also on commercials which can be even more finely tuned to the audience than ever, for $$$$$, of course.

Well pretty much every basketball game will be nationally televised, and baseball will have far more games televised. Kinda hard to claim "exclusiveness" for football when every game is already televised. Besides, CBS only has one game a week and they pay out the arse for it. Not sure why you'd want to kick them to the curb.

CBS will still get the first slot. ESpn/SEC will get the rest
The big deal with the network is the lesser sports coverage. Basketball, Baseball, Softball, T&F etc will all be shown, plus additional programming too.
Think of it like the Big10 Network, with better teams and better partner( ESPN/Fox).

in the same way the NFL network is exclusive to the NFL. The entire content of the SEC network is the SEC. But that doesn't mean that all SEC content is on the SEC Network.

There will be 3 games per Saturday (11, 230, 7) with an SEC gameday. They'll replay all football games during the week, have SEC Storied, tons of non-football live games, all SEC tourney for all sports, and an ESPN3 web-channel for things that don't make it to the tv.

quote:I have always assumed it would be by subscription through your cable, satellite or UVerse provider. There really would be no incentive for the SEC to do it otherwise.

Regular season Aggie baseball will be on national TV. Nirvana

So there will be a separate channel that shows sec stuff 24/7 like the Big10 channel?

That's exactly the model ... the SEC Network will cost us all extra on our cable bills, but the beauty of it is that it'll also cost ACC subscribers extra since it will be part of their sports package and the increase will be absorbed automatically through a price increase to the entire SE region.
Now, for those living outside of the SEC footprint it will basically be offered for an additional charge sort of like ESPN Game Plan.

Yes. A single channel with SEC original content and all types of sports events. Think of it. An all SEC network.
Thy will be done.
Thy will be done.
