Did it even exist then? Even though it backfired on us that was one he'll of a coup stealing the coach from a top 3 all-time program.(arguably #1)

Didn't exist then.

But congrats on stealing Fran from us. You really burned us good after we stole Bryant and Stallings from you.

We were fine with him leaving. We were on major probation and there really wasn't much he could have done in the way of recruiting for the next three years or so. It was the way he left that pissed us off. He left in the middle of the night and didn't even bother to say good-bye to his players.

I wasn't here then so don't know...not sure it even existed. I think this site really took off when Saban went to Bama because of the LSU connection. I know that's the time I started following message boards because info was too slow in coming on ESPN.com. Started out on the Scout boards and eventually found this site which I liked better because the Bama fans here aren't such homers. And they say Tide Fans is even worse than the Scout boards

No SECrant then and TD was very different. Here's what it looked like back in September 2001 LINK

I would like to take this opportunity to express our undying thanks for getting Fran to leave.

We are now even for our poaching of Coach Bryant.

The new blood lsu fans didn't hate bama in 2002, it would be like Mullen leaving for the tennessee job today. Everyone would laugh for a day or 2 and that would be it

The old crowd hates bama for valid reason, the new crowd hate started in '07

I wasn't active here, but I can assure you some of the other Bama sites were livid and wished you ill....until it became immediately clear that you did us a favor.

I normally don't care for Ag schools, but the way you have taken care of us over and over with our coaching, I have to admit a fond feeling toward A&M.

Not that big a coup. Fran says he was not made aware of how severe the penalties could potentially be and if he had known would have never come to Bama. If that is true and I have no reason to doubt him, I don't blame him for taking the first good job that came along. Nothing good could have come to his career by staying through those sanctions although it is ironic that nothing good came of his career anyway.

It did work out for Bama in the end. But they were shocked, pissed, and in disbelief at the time.

The Rant didn't need any help with that. They're busy plotting the move to the Big 12.

The meltdown was epic and rivaled Kiffin leaving UT a few years ago. Places like Al.com were in full on rage. There was weeping and knashing of teeth, tears, anger, and best of all, bobble-head burnings.

Fran leaving Bama for A&M is arguably one of the worst job change decisions of the last 50 years.
