Yawn. Yup nobody cares...

Fran says he was not made aware of how severe the penalties could potentially be and if he had known would have never come to Bama. If that is true and I have no reason to doubt him

Here's the thing...I don't think the administration knew how badly we were gonna get screwed by the committee. There was shock and outrage over the severity of the penalties, since they were out of whack based on the precedents.

I still have my Fran bobblehead. I remember seeing them all being smashed and kept mine thinking it might be valuable one day.

I have a Mark Gottfried bobblehead too.

It was pure awesomeness watching the meltdown on bama nation that a coach would actually choose to leave Bama. Then the Price scandal hit.

Good times they were.

I had a Fran bobblehead. I took him out to the driving range and decapitated him with my Callaway. It put a ding in the face, but it was worth it.

He was and still is only the 2nd HC to ever voluntarily leave Alabama for another job.

The first was Wallace Wade in the 1920s.

So yeah, it's a little understandable that people may have considered it unthinkable

well, since most of us would like to see bama poached unmercifully no, no one objected. we really cheered when their coach got busted with a skank one the coast.

currently son, you a&m fans are the only ones that like bama and your reason is really transparent.

It did work out for Bama in the end. But they were shocked, pissed, and in disbelief at the time.

And if they tell you otherwise, it's just spin propelled by their ego. Indeed, the harder they try to rationalize Fran's decision on grounds other than him wanting to be at TAMU, the more clear it all becomes.

It truly was a shocking hire. Too bad it was the worst in our history.

The rant would have been amazing.

I think I still have my Fran bobblehead somewhere. Somebody gave it to me in the office where I used to work, and when I left there I put it in a box to take with me. I haven't seen that thing in a long time...just like the real Fran.

Bama was in freefall. We were in shock that the NCAA was giving us such big sanctions and were looking for a savior, like Fran, to stay with the team and help them through the years we would be on probation.

I believe that a lot of people were pissed at Fran for the "holding the rope" stuff he fed the players. He kept the boys from transferring and then jumped ship.

As someone said, Fran and the rest of the Bama nation did not think that the sanctions would be as bad as they were. Bama had to scramble to find any coach that they could, hence Price, and then going to Shula, a loved past Bama player to help keep the team going while we wandered in the wilderness.

He did. To say otherwise is retarded. Was there a buyout paid to him? Was he terminated? He left because he found the environment untenable, just like Wade and Fran did. Its impossible to argue otherwise.

TO a certain extent, I can understand Fran leaving but they way he did it was 10 times worse than Kiffin... At least Kiffin had the balls to say it to the players face to face.

What's ironic, is that even though we were on probation, Fran actually fielded some pretty good teams. If he had ridden it out, then who knows where he could have taken Bama. I guess the Bama job, may have actually made him look like a better coach than he really was because he fell on his face at A&M and OU but raped him severely in this game:
