the new guy will have some talent to work with. if he can find a qb i expect a huge turnaround; at least to a damn tough and competitive team. i think chiz lost the team and had some pretty bad asst. coaches, esp after their oc left. look at ole miss once they got a good coach and they don't have near the talent auburn has.

But will Petrino beat Saban with Chiz's players?

Auburn is the type of team that has one or two really good years a decade and hovers around average the rest of the time. I don't see any coach being able to sustain success there. They have too much going against them recruiting against Georgia and Alabama.

Petrino has never been able to beat Saban with Petrino's players.

It will not be difficult to improve upon Loeflers playcalling. Good lord that guy was horrible.

Who is going to go there and put their name on the line with Bama and LSU and aTm all playing good ball and have to deal with the inevitable sanctions? Petrino has too much baggage to go the Auburn and be set to fail. Smart thing is to hire and up and comer that can clean up the program and build a foundation.

Chiz wasn't hired by Auburn because of his coaching acumen. It wouldn't take much for a real coach to prove that.

Auburn right now is a tough job and will be even tougher with sanctions.

Not so fast. They were good in high school, but the vast majority of them have shown absolutely no ability to compete at an SEC level. Lot's of poor evaluations, poor player development, and very poor discipline. A lot of them will have to be kicked off before this team has any shot.

Barrett Sallee ?@BarrettSallee Doubt Auburn's NCAA issues are going to be an issue in its coaching search. Way overblown, from what I'm told

In all honesty, I would not be surprised if it was Petrino. Auburn wants to win, and this guy is a proven winner. He is also damaged goods and has limited options if he wants to return to coaching. Auburn also has a looming NCAA investigation that will certainly deter some of the better candidates from taking the job.
