I mean places that would be considered a good place to live in other states as well. I understand this will be a hard list to come up with and the standards need to be pretty loose.

I am not as familiar with the south part of the state and the Jackson burbs as I should be, so please list what you think should be added and a good reason why that should be the case. Here is my current list. A "meh" indicator shows that the town is at least good enough to avoid suicide

"Good" towns in no particular order

Olive Branch
Southaven (meh)
Hernando
New Albany (meh)
Tupelo (sorta meh)
Oxford
Hattiesburg
Starkville (meh)
Madison
Bay St. Louis
Pass Christian
Biloxi (meh)
Gulfport (meh)
Brookhaven (meh)

This state is so bad. I still love it, but damn son.

Olive Branch is weird because it has some of the best home and neighborhoods in the state, 4 nice golf courses, but not a damn thing to do. No good shopping for the women, and not a single good restaurant. Seriously, not one. It is so white flight that they just wanted it as a place to live but were still willing to drive to Memphis to eat because they didn't want to put in the effort to make restaurants of their own.

As a foreigner I would say Oxford, most of the time I've spent in the state in Tupelo... the buffalo park is cool...

ETA: Jackson was a ghost town everytime I went, but Fondren was pretty cool. Fondren Public and the Apothecary are places you would expect to find in Nashville.

There are some cool places in Jackson (especially The Fondren area) but you sort to have to know about them. However, I wouldn't live in Jackson proper unless I hit the Mega Powerball and have money to burn. Perfectly fine driving in from the "burbs".

I can vouch for Oxford(my hometown) Fulton is nice but really small and shuts down at 9. Hattiesburg is a nice place and you are close to a lot of bigger cities. Starkville isn't a bad place to raise kids. Tupelo is nice of course. Some of the towns closer to Memphis are nice as well.

Tupelo has almost outgrown itself. The infrastructure is not good and the city is struggling to keep what they have in decent shape. I use to live there back in the early 2000's and it was a nice place, but its growing so fast they cant keep up.

Second home in Oxford. Stay there couple of times a year. Live outside the state full time. No offense but if you are not from MS it would be very tough to live there.

Ocean Springs or Hattiesburg are the only towns in MS that would make me consider living in MS again.

I like the rest of your list, other than Tupelo.

Nothing meh about Tupelo, son.

ETA after seeing Hardy's post. Where's the Tupelo hate coming from?

It has a real Greasy feel compared to the other towns listed IMHO. I got very familiar with it through my 20s, and that's just how I think of it I guess.

I come there for work a fair amount and never look forward to it really. It isn't a bad place, just not "top 10" IMO. Just a dumb opinion

It used to be the herion capital of MS

Yeah, it's probably because I'm younger and haven't had the time/experience to form an opinion on it outside of there being good restaurants and schools. It's all about who you know I've realized here, unfortunately.

I'm forming an opinion as a partying single fool form the years of 2000 - 2007. It could be completely different now as well.

I know this sounds dumb, but it's just how it is in my head.
