Yes. Born and raised in Oxford.

Yes. I'm excluded from the "mistakes" Mississippians made against people that look like me.That's kinda obvious. You act like I'm calling you a white devil. Relax.

Why would you ever take responsibility for what a black man did? Doesn't make sense to me.

That's your opinion. In my opinion, your logic is terrible.

That's some bullshite entitlement complex on par with feminism.

Equality is not the desired outcome of these movements anymore.

We'll play this game too.

I take no responsibility for any crime or unethical behavior committed by a white person, specifically a Mississippian or Mississippi resident, since our State's founding.

There. I've voided myself of all responsibility.

Why are we being punished for things that we didn't do?

I'm aware that I'm not entitled to anything. Never said I was. If it isn't equality then what is it?

Nobody is asking for you to take responsibility for something you didn't do. All the letter said was help the University be better in the eyes of everyone else.

I'm sure you get tired of defending the University when people talk about it as being racist. Why not get rid of some of the very things that causes that to happen? Is it really that hard? Will it hurt you that much? Help me to understand.

I don't think you can call getting rid of a song or a name for the academic side of the University punishment. Much worse things could hypothetically be done.

But that's just what I got out of it.

show me where removing these things and winning are correlated and i will GLADLY give them up.

Several links have been given of situations where guys have stated racism was being used as a negative against Ole Miss recruiting. Losing Carl Lawson last year because of it was not the only factor but was a factor.

Kendarius Webster- "A lot of coaches were saying ‘Ole Miss is this, and Ole Miss is that," he told Carvell. "...That they're racist and why would you ever want to go there. It was just crazy things like that."

Losing out on top players because of this DIRECTLY correlates with winning. I'm not sure how or why you can't see that.

Beverley Nkemdiche-"I heard all of that," she said. "I know they haven't won an SEC championship since 1963. People told me all of that. They told me Ole Miss was a racist place and they hated black people. It's not a black and white issue for me. My son was there for a whole year and he didn't die. They didn't kill him."

I personally spoke with Ty Barrett mom. I work with her. We sat down and had a conversation about Ole Miss before he came to visit. The first thing she told me was some of the coaches she had spoken with were talking about how racist of a place it is. Barrett did not come to Ole Miss to play. It wasnt because of race issues but it goes to show its being used. Now if I could have had a conversation and said the school just got rid of this this and that, do you not think she might not see the change that has and is continuing to happen?

No one is saying that there may EVER come a point where someone might not use the past against us. The thing is we can can't control that. We can however control what direction we move in. How we work to be portrayed. I can tell you this, going to a Ole Miss game now is much better than it was 20 years ago with confederate flags flying over my head. That change didnt occur by ignoring that it needed to go.

and as I have said before IMO players use that as an EXCUSE/Scapegoat and none of those single handily make a difference. Cause if it was THAT big of a deal then we wouldnt have any black students/athletes. But we do so how do all the ones we do have feel about it? I know first hand how many felt during the mascot situation. Multiple black athletes in my class discussed it with me and a couple even asked me "So wait, why exactly are we voting for a new mascot?"

Well the best part is it doesn't matter that you don't agree with it. The University of Mississippi is moving forward whether you like it or not. Join the ride or GTFO.

Nothing wrong with disagreeing. It doesn't change what's happening though.

Or I can still pull for Ole Miss but ALWAYS wear my Col Reb polo and ALWAYS call us the Rebels and ALWAYS call us Ole Miss.

And you can pull for the Mississippi Black Bears.

you do your thing and ill do mine

I feel like why even leave it up to chance that it MIGHT directly cause us to lose out on a big time recruit. Why wait till it happens to do something about it? Might as well be proactive.

You may call it an excuse but why would someone come somewhere they feel unwelcome. Like I said, it may not have single handily made a difference yet but there's no need to leave it up to chance IMO.

And I know it doesn't bother most of the black athletes on campus because it doesn't bother me but I'm sure there are people who it does bother.

True enough but I feel like it's a little different when it comes to race.

BTW I appreciate you actually being able to talk it out without the name calling like the Tornado dude.
