Ya don't travel much, do you? I'll give you that Alabama has *nice* beaches, but gorgeous?? And Mississippi? You show me a "gorgeous" beach in MS, then we'll talk about whether they deserve to be in consideration for worst state or not.

I'm from Louisiana and we would be last if it weren't for the food. Our beaches are ugly and disgusting, and for some reason people swim in them.
If you think all Louisiana has going for it is food, then you aren't very knowledgable about your home State.

Depends on what you like. If you like big cities and nightlife, New Orleans, Nashville, Atlanta are for you.
If you like a lot of tourism traps, such as Disney World, Sea World.... I prefer Universal Studios myself; than Florida is for you.
If you like ocean and beaches, than SC, GA, FL, AL, & MS are for you.
If you like mountains, waterfalls, hiking, camping, fishing, and hunting than Tennessee & Alabama are for you.
I was born and raised in North Alabama on the largest lake in the state. All my life, I've had boats & campers. Learned to water ski early.
Loved camping & fishing. A 20 minute drive to a beautiful state park, and 2 other state parks close by.
Would wake up in the morning, walk out on my front porch and view the mountain and lake, then walk a couple of blocks to the lake for early morning hiking.
Lake Guntersville, Alabama, small town listed on the national register of historic places, where they close main street down for the homecoming parade each year.

Texas can't be that low..It's too damn diverse..swamps, mountains, desert, prairies, beaches. You have every landscape in TX. Many cities with different cultures. No way Texas is 6th.

Yea they're nice beaches and all but gorgeous is strong. Indonesia, Hawaii, Thailand and the like would be considered gorgeous. Gulf shores is basically only good for a quick and inexpensive beach trip, which is perfectly fine. I love me some Florabama.

There's a lot of good with every SEC state: whether it's beaches, natural beauty, great cities, etc. I just don't see a lot of good in Mississippi. Other than Biloxi, which is basically a tiny, overwhelmingly depressing form of Atlantic City, I don't view Mississippi as much other than a bunch of rest stops on the way to New Orleans

11. Mizzou- nobody likes your crappy landlocked state
When a land locked state is steady growing in population...that means someone likes it. And gets a lot of visitors. Missouri's population is over 6 million and steady growing. Some SEC states are losing people to other states.

The actual beaches and water? Yes, gorgeous.
Obviously the surrounding land does not compare to places like California and Oregon with gorgeous hills and rocky cliffs, but the beaches themselves, yes.
Personally, I'm as interested in the surroundings as the actual beach, which is why I prefer the lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia, but some people only care about the beach itself.

Exactly.
If the South could drive 4 hours to something like this, anything in Alabama would be an afterthought, and definitely MS...

Georgia the best. Makes sense. And that includes all of Georgia that isn't Atlanta, Athens, or Savannah, which outside of the North Georgia mountains and the rest of the Atlantic Coast is basically a total shitehole.

You're ranking usually have Missouri, Florida, Texas, and Georgia around each other. Like my last thread...when you're state is 6+mil in population and growing..that usually is a good sign about your state.

I mean, obviously. I didn't say they were the best beaches in the frickin world.
But in Eastern United States I'd say the Alabama and Western Florida beaches are the prettiest actual beaches there are along with the Sarasota/Bradenton area.

Is the state growing in population or just a lot of ppl in west St. Louis? As an otr truck driver I don't see much in Missouri
Posted on 3/17/16 at 12:50 pm to bayou2003
Yup. It's obvious that Florida, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas are the best places to be within the SEC looking at almost any livability or quality of life statistic.

Agreed.
Except the national perception is not what you want it to be.
#2 most visited State
#29 most visited State
#45 most visited State (only 5 states visited less, yikes)
You pick which is which from FL,LA and Arkansas.
