Your condescending long-winded posts are exhausting.
I've found that if I don't qualify my statements (leading to the long-winded nature of them), I'm often taken out of context or people assume I mean something I don't. Also, I often try to anticipate arguments against what I'm saying and address them preemptively.

I'm not trying to come across as condescending but rather unemotional. I try to leave emotion at the door when entering these discussions.

With that said, I know you know that violence can and does happen everywhere. Certain places are more prone than others, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared wherever you are.

I agree to disagree with you and I can say your position is not unreasonabke.
That's fine with me. I never enter these discussions with the expectation of changing anyone's mind. I enjoy it and it helps keep my mind fresh.

But I appreciate the kind words and I try to remain respectful even in disagreements. We can certainly agree to disagree.

Here's a thread I started on the Poli board a while back about this very issue. Maybe YOU should hit up the FBI crime statistics so you can stop making things up.

I did before reading this response, but thank you for the link.

As I said, my assumption is that it happens, not that it is likely to happen to you or me.

It happens enough to be a real possibility, even if it isn't a real likelihood, so I choose to be prepared, just in case.

I do. If I don't have a firearm secured on my person, it is in my safe.

What do you think would happen to violent crime if handguns were made illegal with, say, a mandatory 10 year prison sentence?

Yes, that's why we have a gun safe.

But the excuse is always home defense. It has more to do with inadequacy. Small, weak men need guns to make themselves feel safe.

I don't think that there would be a change at all. Making them illegal will not deter a criminal.

I own a handgun. I also own a pistol permit. When I purchased my firearm I went to a store where they did a background check. I have not broken any laws and have no criminal history. I do not carry my pistol on my person because it's not easily concealed so I carry it in my truck. When it's not in my truck it is in my nightstand drawer. The Mrs. and I are expecting and when our child gets here, said firearm will be secured via a trigger lock that I have. Even when my gun is in my truck or in the nightstand drawer it does not have a round in the chamber and the safety is on. I was taught to respect guns and to treat every gun as if it is loaded (even when you know it's not).

Criminals don't care about laws and what's illegal, that's why they are called criminals. If you advocate and put gun control into effect, honestly how many criminals are going to say well I better go turn my guns in? Gun control would do nothing to deter criminals and would only hurt law abiding citizens who have obtained their firearms legally.

Sure, there are instances where you have someone commit a gun crime with a legally obtained firearm but I'm quite sure there are less instances of this than stabbings.

I had a good friend of mine that I grew up with get killed by a handgun that was "unloaded" as he and two friends were looking at it. I don't think it was the guns fault because a gun doesn't have a mind of it's own. It was because they didn't treat it with care and respect and therefore an accident occurred. They were all young at the time and were doing something they shouldn't have been doing. Guns are not toys and are not to be treated like one.

Anything can and will be used as a weapon when someone wants to inflict harm on someone else. Guns are just an easier target to try and blame.

Do you sleep with a gun under your pillow? Or do you plan on asking the burglar to give you enough time to unlock your safe in the middle of the night so you can shoot him?

It doesn't take long to unlock a trigger guard. Which I believe is what he said he had on the gun in his nightstand.

I sleep with a gun in a safe next to my bed. I can get to it within 5 seconds of being awoken if necessary.

I have a dog that is quick to growl bark at strange noises and I have a home configuration that would make it more difficult for an intruder to get to me quickly.

I'm confident that I can get to my firearms before an intruder can get to me, but no setup is perfect. I think the odds would be in my favor in the event of a "visitor" dropping by unexpected at night.
