You mean Americans won't do it for 10 bucks an hour anymore?and probably without workman's comp?
That's probably what you mean.

It would take a lot more than $10/hour for me to even consider doing it.

You keep showing how limited your exposure to the world is. Gas pump attendants are still normal in The Northeastern U.S.,and they earn a decent wage.

Not as long as the govt subsidizes people not working.

You really shouldn't get more than minimum wage for pumping gas. You shouldn't be able to buy any car you want with that as your main income.

I have done that work for that wage, many years ago...that is the point.

See, That guy pumping gas is handling all the money, he is busy and keeps it in his pocket, or wallet, he is a target for robbery, and handling very combustible materials all day for morons talking on their cell phones, leaving their cars in gear, shite like that.

Sounds like a very unnecessary job. Looks like the South is ahead of the times for once.

When it comes to hiring general labor for projects around my house, I'd rather hire Mexicans.

In the past two years I've hired two Americans, and both turned out to be druggies. One stole stuff out of my house. The other did a little work, then took payment for "supplies" on another project and disappeared.

I've never had any issues with Mexicans, for whatever reason. The ones I have hired have been grown ups, eager for work, and they bust their arse and do a good job.

Actually not, because a good attendant can increase traffic flow and fuel sales by 100%, also sells the cigs, oil and simple stuff, instead of having moron John Q public getting in each others way, and that IS what happens at self service places. The attendant makes things flow smoothly.

Which is probably still a deflated wage due to the market being saturated with cheap labor.

Actually no we do work for the state and jobs with federal money in them so we have to pay what the prevailing wage is, and tbh we pay better than the prevailing wage. Seems like every white guy we hire lasts about a month before they start showing up late and they all bitch when we schedule a big pour at 3 am etc. So yeah there are jobs they won't do.

I think part of the problem is that most Americans who are entry-level type labor are either teenagers, or they are POS who are stuck there for one reason or another. That is my experience, anyway.

I'll never hire another MFer from Craigslist for anything. If an American is a good worker, in most instances, they will be gainfully employed by a company somewhere and will move up according to their ability and work ethic.

My best experience with day labor has been the 30 year old and up Latino dudes.

So would an American who did that, make at least 850 bucks a week for 40 hours?
That's pretty much a realistic living wage for hard, or skilled work.

shite like data entry pays 30k plus a year these days for people who will put in 40 hours a week at it. I have a friend with no degree who manually enters checks for a local bank and makes 33k. You can't live well on that for a family, but you could with two people doing that. He lives pretty well by himself in this area, manages to take trips, drink at bars, etc.

Because of the Unions lobbying to make pumping your own gas illegal in those states. Otherwise it wouldn't earn shite. It's a pointless job.

Depending on your particular job they make anywhere from $11 to start for unskilled labor and $15 to start for skilled labor. Plus pretty good company paid insurance.

55 hours per week, a skilled worker should be bringing home 1,300 per week, taking into account going into higher taxing for overtime pay and other deductions.

same here and same industry. I just had to let a guy go because he has been late 14 times in the last two months and then he and his brother whined and cried about giving him just one more chance.

In general, I pay better than nearly all of the contractors around here yet can't find help that is pseudo competent for the most part. The ones that will work, don't have a driver's license or have so many issues that they can't get on company insurance. The ones that will work are too dumb to move up the ladder.

Different line of work same problems here
