Northern Atlanta counties were in a winter storm watch on Monday, it went down to a winter weather advisory late Monday night, then became a winter weather warning about 3:30 am on Tuesday. The mayor and governor are saying it was not expected, but when a winter warning issued you should expect the worse and they messed up. The schools in the northern counties should have been cancelled at that point as well so they messed up.

Left Cahaba Heights on a rescue mission to get my bro-in-law from the Colonnade. Took Acton Rd to Rocky Ridge and Overton Rd back to the house. Only slipped a couple of times in the 4WD. fricking abandoned cars everywhere.

I'm seeing pics of them on my feed all around here too. One of the reasons I'm not attempting to get out until after lunch tomorrow. I may wait til Friday even.

Did you go Blue Lake Rd? How is it from Crosshaven? Looked like The Summit was blocked, so about to take Blue Lake to 280. Saw a lot of cars heading that way so assuming it's passable, if just a little slushy.

I went 119 from 31 in Pelham to Moody. Took me about 2 hours. Cars abandoned everywhere. Roads were OK. Only a couple of dicey spots.

I didn't go Blue Lake. The main drag through the Colonnade was a disaster. There was a burned out car right in the middle of the road there.

Ain't that some shite, in the middle of all this ice and snow your catches on fire
The dumb arse probably kept spinning his tires until his engine overheated and caught.

And weather, while somewhat predictable, is easily.. unpredictable.
A 75 mile shift north in the expected path of a storm can make quite the difference. I remember Ivan back in 2004 in Mobile. Hit some of that colder water near the coast and the northern half of the storm slowed it's spin a little while the south didn't. Threw it some 50 miles east. Pensacola gets blasted and Mobile gets the calmer west side.

Was just told the roads in Birmingham are re-freezing now. So everyone be careful.

I'm cooking a massive feast of spaghetti with meat sauce and italian sausage with garlic bread and got a fire going. I ain't going anywhere
I am a bit concerned about how bad it will be getting to work tomorrow even if the ice melts if there are still cars everywhere.

Yeah, I ended up taking Blue Lake all the way through the Colonnade. Colonnade was a disaster, as was Blue Lake. 280 was a breeze.

Now seems like a good time to invite over a couple lady friends.
"Of course yall can make it over, the roads are passable right now."
... a couple hours later...
"Ohhh nooo, the roads are frozen again. I can't let yall go out in these conditions... better stay here for the night where it's warm ;) "

I had to go off road a couple of times. My 4WD is a beater. Told my wife that I'm keeping it forever for days like today. Nothing better than locking in 4WD on a big arse truck you don't give a shite about.

That's basically the whole "Baby, It's Cold Outside" song. I always say it's my favorite Christmas song about date rape.

Bitches dig that song. Does this mean that they also dig date rape? I feel like way less of an a-hole all of a sudden

Agree. It's not their fault for the snow and ice, or that they were abandoned on the interstate. I have a cousin who has been on I-20 between Pell City and Eden, since 12:30 yesterday because of blockages. In the end, it's just one of those, "shite happens", things.
If he was there my uncle knocked on his window. He looked at every car on that stretch of road and was taking people to shelter.

I think Atlanta had enough notice and is now playing the blame game. Birmingham however, was at the mercy of meteorologist who ultimately are not God and bad miscalculated where the storm would hit.
This situation did make me question whether there is an evacuation plan for the city, state ect because essentially that was what we saw yesterday, a mass evacuation

Lol sounds like my dad today. His statement was something to the effect that every year he thinks it is time to retire the truck and just stick to his TDI Jetta, then shite like this happens and 4 wd plus chains is tough to beat.

Also, these people can go to hell. I hate to see people take advantage in situations like this. So everyone be on the look out for scammers and spread the word

^^Knoxville has dealt with all this much better than Atlanta, B'ham, or even Chatt but the reason why is we got hit with the Blizzard of 93 (Storm of the Century). Y'all got some of the '93 Storm too (broke records for your area too) but Knoxville and NE. TN got 3-4 foot and some drifts that were higher. Knoxville area also had no power for several weeks -- some up to 3 weeks or more with no power. For more than a week my hometown was shut down completely. THAT single storm effected Appalachia big time and completely changed everything -- we established EMA plans we never had before that storm.
On top of that we get a lot more snow than y'all do. So snow isn't out of the question just only a few times a year. Our particular area is known for unpredictable weather so we err on the side of caution.
That said, there's no way in hell I'm going to try go down my driveway till this stuff clears - I'm atop a mountain/ridge not a hill.
