Scotch is third on that list. Actually, it's fourth. I like Irish whiskey (Jameson, Bushmills, Knappogue Castle) better than Scotch. And it will likely soon be fifth, thanks to rum.
Actually, that describes me pretty well too, although I would add rye to the list above everything except bourbon. I go through short periods where I'm in the mood for Scotch, but it's usually no better than 4th on the list...

Yeah, Scotch - to me anyway - has a taste of raisins, figs, stuff that I don't particularly care for.
But Bourbon, Tennessee sippin' whiskey and rum -->
Irish whiskey doesn't seem to mess around either. It's a different type of alcohol taste, but I generally like it.

Applewood Estate makes excellent rums.
Try the Master's Blend Legacy.

Try Laphroaig. Nothing fruity. Basically just distilled peat moss in a glass.

Rum makes my joints hurt the next day. I switched to whiskey and the joint pain went away.

I will look for it. I've only tried about 4 different types of Scotch, so my education is lacking a bit.

I will definitely look for it. I checked out their website and they are touting the fact that their rum does not need to be mixed with anything to be enjoyed - which is exactly what I'm looking for.

Interesting. You are the second person in this thread that says rum makes their joints hurt.
So far, that hasn't been the case for me, but I've only tried two rums so far and they were both last week.
I will be on the lookout for joint pain, though, just in case.

Found any Mount Gay yet? Just sipped a little after dinner tonight myself. Bottle says it is the oldest rum distillery in the world....don't know if true. About the only rum I enjoy by itself though.

Haven't been to the liquor store since I read your post. I am hoping to check it out at some point this week.

Try a bottle of Appleton's, the reserve is pretty good and by the way Captain Morgans is the southern comfort of rum. They try to hide the flavor but it's impossible.

Tried some Applewood Estate rum tonight. It was not the Master's Blend Legacy, though. It was the Estate Distilled Hand Blended edition. I didn't see anything labeled "Master's Blend Legacy". Saw some 12 year old Applewood Estate rum that I might try next.
Thanks for the advice.

Haven't read the thread, but dark rum and diet ginger ale is my new jam.

I'm just interested in drinking rum neat at the moment. So I'm looking for decent rums that I can drink straight without mixing.
