Boring day so far... have a long break. So, iyo what are the nicest/best state capitals and what are the worst.

Best
1. Boston
2. Atlanta
3. Nashville
4. Austin (many will rank Austin #1, but I just don't have an overwhelming love for it)
5. Salt Lake City

Honorable mention (not listed mostly b/c of size): Santa Fe, Annapolis, St. Paul (Minneapolis would be #3 if it were included)

Best can mean anything: places you'd like to live, best hookers, etc. I don't care. Just please explain your criteria

Worst
1. Lansing
2. Jackson
3. Columbus (I absolutely hate that city and can't explain why)
4. Baton Rouge
5. Montgomery

I would throw a mention out there for Providence. Very underrated city.

it feels like you are in an airport. I am not a Columbus fan, worst "big" city in the state

No, it has nothing to do with that. I really like LSU's campus- probably my favorite in the SEC. I just don't like Baton Rouge

Strangely true

Something about it just doesn't feel like a real city, but just random buildings put together

I really like Cincinnati, and relatively like Cleveland. Just not Columbus

I enjoyed my brief visit to Frankfort, KY, if only for the Buffalo Trace bourbon distillery.

Love Santa Fe, though it's been 10 or so years since I've been.

Most of the Southern ones are lame. Nashville is cool, and Baton Rouge is okay, but the rest pretty much suck.

The good
Sacramento is really nice. The capitol complex is laid out nicely with lots of green space instead of the crush of buildings and concrete you usually see around a seat of government. Old Sacramento and the riverfront is pretty good too.

The bad
Montgomery, which is where I sit right now. As far as redeeming quality go, well, my daughter likes the zoo. Other than that, I got nothing.

Casinos aren't my thing, but taking you at your word I'd opine that's because it is in Wetumpka, not Montgomery. Wetumpka's grown into a nice little town (I've got a Wetumpka address but don't live in town). The best thing about that growth along with the growth of Prattville and Millbrook is that once I leave work on Friday I don't have to return to Montgomery until Monday.

Agreed. It's been quite a while since I was there, but my general impression was Montgomery with snow.

Similar to my impression of Anchorage.

Worst: Charleston, WV - Shithole that stays mired in smog and dreary weather the majority of the year.
