I was gonna say by the shape of the head he's likely venomous.

He looks like a cold hearted snake. Look into his eyes.

My parents doxen got bit on the neck by a rattler when I was a kid. Da homie pulled through. I once saw a horse drag that dog across a field by the horse's tail. That dog was tough as shite.

They can do damage. Had a friend who nearly lost an arm years ago. One was in the back of his truck. He went to pull out lumber and it struck him twice in the hand before he could pull his hand away. His forearm swole up the size of his thigh and was in the hospital for a short time from it.
That sucks. Sounds like as good as a copperhead can do. Have to be careful where you reach for sure. I wonder how it got in the bed of his truck?

I didn't. Was on my FB feed. Someone else at the park took the pic.

I almost took my dog out there this morning. I'm glad that I was lazy.

You might be surprised to hear that attempting to kill venomous snakes actually increases your risk of snakebite. This masterful post written by David Steen at Living Alongside Wildlife is a good argument for why this is the case. Specifically, the reason is that about 2/3rds of snakebites in the USA are a direct result of intentional exposure to the snake and could be avoided if the people involved had made different decisions. These bites resulted from people who were trying to kill snakes or molest them, or who chose to interact with them for some other reason (ranging from snake handling churches to collection for rattlesnake roundups). Although snakebite is an occupational hazard for some, such as zookeepers and herpetologists, the vast majority of Americans are at extremely low risk of snakebite.

Makes sense. There are times when it's unavoidable, like my friend. He didn't realize it was under some of the lumber in his truck. And sometimes you nearly step on them before realizing it. But, yeah.. most strikes can be avoided.

Try East Lake Park. Very safe. Never once seen a snake there...

I ran over one a couple of days ago. We're at Pickwick this weekend, and I'm surprised I haven't seen any yet.

Bumping a hornets nest is in the top three of my all time worst list's.

But think how many cow flies would be around if it were not for hornets and wasp.

Just seen about a 6' chicken snake or *black racer*
while cutting grass around my barn, freak me and him out at first we stare at each other then both went our own ways.

When I was a kid, those always scared me at first glance over moccasins or copperheads because they're so damn big. Hard to believe the little guys are harmless.

I once got chased out of a creek and halfway up a hill by a moccasin after I almost stepped on him when coming off a log that I was using to cross the water. That little SOB was PISSED.

Wrong all snakes are bad. If they're not Rattle Snakes you can be sure that they're Cobra's.
