People trying to defend flying the flag just end up trying to whitewash (lol get it?) it's use by those looking to enforce racial segregation and our demons of racial hatred. That's not the real argument though.

The rebellion of the South, for all reasons...slavery, tarrifs, "states rights", speaks to the pride of southerners and the attitude of "frick the Yankees for telling us how to live". In the modern day, the flag stands for just that in supporters minds. Pride in southern culture and a heritage of doing things our way and frick everyone else. Most aren't bad people or racist, just folks proud of where they come from.

The problem is for others, it represents a time of discrimination and intimidation. A state house shouldn't show support to a symbol used by hateful people to keep them down. Im glad South Carolina moved to remove the flag for that reason, but I caution those who want to call supporters bigots to realize that's not the driving force for them.

True...There's people in this area from Kansas that fly it. They've never been down south. If they only knew how southerners felt about Kansas.lol. One of my gf's co workers say she likes it because it's a "rebel" flag. Said her daughter's best friend is black. So we know she's not racist, she don't talk about race, etc.

But the pride in southern culture doesn't fly with me...family is from all over the south, Dad's half started in Virginia, moved to Mississippi, then Louisiana. Mother's half from Louisiana and Mississippi. They are country folks, live out in the country, own land, etc. They've never needed a confederate flag to display "southern pride" or southern heritage. We are the first ones that actually went north, so my family have a history for generations of being southerners.

And believe me a lot of people in Louisiana don't give 2 fricks about people in North Carolina, Virginia, etc. And I know people from those areas that look down upon people from Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama. I laugh at that southern pride as if all places just love each other and view each state as equals. Promise you some of those people in Virginia/NC love those yankees from New york, Pennsylvania, Connectituct, etc....They bring lots of $$$$$$$$ to that state.

You mean - like you, amirite?

lulz

In other words give everyone a trophy, love, peace and all that liberal progressive bullshite jazz.

Make everyone the same - ruled by one ideal, one philosophy ... the liberal progressive bullshite philosophy.

We get it, we do.

Obviously it isn't necessary to fly the Confederate flag, but that's where the supporters are coming from.

There's some regional rivalry, but there's a culture of the deep south (Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, parts of Louisiana, the Florida panhandle, south carolina, parts of Tennessee) and people there are proud of that. I wish the Confederate flag wasn't part of that pride or at least hadn't been sullied with a tradition of bigotry.

Is there a big fuss over the Georgia State flag...don't now if people are too dumb to realize it's the other confederate flag. I hope Georgia don't bow down and change theirs, nothing wrong with the original one.

I think it's a state's issue. I love giving people flack over it just to be an arse. But people shouldn't be all over South Carolina if they don't live there. Citizens need to vote, if they lose, oh well. I like the drama though.
