He's just that far ahead of the curve.

Your attempts to cut people deep on the internet are probably my favorite aspect of your posting style. You really put some effort into them, not realizing they are just so meaningless

I think you're just upset that everyone else holds the same opinion of you that I do.

What's it all about, TELL ME DAMNIT

Eddie said why don't we just kill 2/3rds of the population and continue living the life, assuming that continuing to live the life means continuing to live the way we currently live as a society. (Obviously I know he wasn't being serious about killing off overpopulation).

I responded by saying this isn't living the life. As a whole the planet is suffering, which has nothing to do with global warming, we're without a doubt trashing this place. Millions are starving, armed conflict is continuous, our topsoil is being severely degraded, the gap between rich and poor is growing, education is joke, overall we stimulate the worst parts of our human nature. If you disagree with any of that it doesn't really matter, agreeing with all of that isn't really important.

His mentality is sort of like what happened in the most recent financial crisis. We reflaited the bubble instead of fixing the underlying causes, setting up a repeat of the same problem.

What Eddie said is basically saying lets crash then do exactly the same thing that brought us to the point of needing to crash.

The fact that I read a book tonight was just an example of how we as individuals can still enjoy treasures in life despite things being incorrect on the larger scale. I could have said I played a video game, or shot bullfrogs, or whatever. Obviously everyones own way of enjoying their individual life is their version of 'living the life'.

My bad, I just saw a long post beginning with "Eddie" and that was my knee jerk reaction. Not that there's anything wrong with Eddie but it's pretty obvious when he's not being serious which is often.

I'm sure glad the Rant has worked to solve the problem! This is a brilliant thread, full of insightful... stuff.

For me the only disappointment is that the guy who offered these words of wisdom:

"You're just idealistic and irrelevant" -- Roger Klarvin

is also the guy I agree with most. That's messed up.

Carry on.

If there is one thing you can be absolutely certain of it's that a thread on the rant about climate change will involve no climate science whatsoever

As fun as this thread has been, I'm not about to re-read all of it. And I'm not sure how much of the below you'd disagree with. My main complaint with your posts is you seem to be a condescending prick. That and your doomsayer attitude. You complain about pollution, but our part of the world is a MUCH cleaner place than it was when I was a kid.

But here goes my personal take. Feel free to disagree to whatever:

Temperature records have been manipulated to make the current warming seem more drastic than it is. There is absolutely no doubt of this.

Temperature records are taken from areas that have grown to be more urbanized over the decades. The urban hot spot deal is real. This, again, makes the warming seem more severe than it is. I've measured this myself - even in a smallish town like Vicksburg, I get a 2C difference between my home and driving south out into the sticks late at night. This difference absolutely dwarfs any "warming" that has been measured in Vicksburg.

shite happens. Temperatures have been warmer in the past. Also a LOT colder. Umm... panic?

Arctic sea ice is troubling... until you look at Antarctic sea ice.

Sea level: Nothing (or at worst not much) to see here. Move along.

On the flipside and in defense of the Chicken Littles, the satellite records aren't subject to the same shenanigans as the land records, and they've shown warming since '79 or so. So yeah, it has warmed since '79. I'm not ready to call other people idiots who disagree, but maybe that's just me.

And yet I bet you hate the EPA. and we have exported most of our manufacturing and most of the related pollution to china which is a mess.

Absolute bullshite. Please feel free to back this up. A noted climate scientist had issues with the data and the Koch brothers funded a study by him that concluded the data was accurate. And to think that other scientists would not notice this kind of glaring simple problem is tin foil hat wearing stuff

Both the Arctic and Antarctic ice has been melting and at an ever accelerating rate. This is not in dispute by any rational person
