or we could just kill 2/3 of the population and keep living the life. I like that plan a whole lot better actually.

'Living the life', this is not.

Abundance of food, higher consciousness, real connection with the earth and people and animals. Avatarish type reality would be living the life.

The carbon dioxide released due to your breathing is polluting the air. You should stop breathing...do it for the children.

That's interesting, because I always pictured you as one of those guys from Wall-E, you know the fat bodies in the mobile recliners.

This is such a lame rebuttal to the fact that we're abusive to our planet.

I made this point a couple weeks ago:

So what? What do you want me to do about it? Shake my fist at something? "Damn you global warming, stop!"

You can't do anything about it. Period. Now if China and India get interested then give everyone else a call.

Maybe acknowledge that its a real problem and stop spouting off that it is some liberal dream to scare people with.

Not that you are doing that, just ya know, pretty much every republican.

This topic is so disgustingly divided it's unbelievable.

Political branding at its pinnacle.

The very first time you learned about carbon dioxide was probably in grade school: We breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Any eight-year-old can rattle off this fact.

It should come as no surprise that, when confronted with the challenge of reducing our carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels, some people angrily proclaim, "Why should we bother? Even breathing out creates carbon emissions!"

This statement fails to take into account the other half of the carbon cycle. As you also learned in grade school, plants are the opposite to animals in this respect: Through photosynthesis, they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen, in a chemical equation opposite to the one above. (They also perform some respiration, because they need to eat as well, but it is outweighed by the photosynthesis.) The carbon they collect from the CO2 in the air forms their tissues - roots, stems, leaves, and fruit.

These tissues form the base of the food chain, as they are eaten by animals, which are eaten by other animals, and so on. As humans, we are part of this food chain. All the carbon in our body comes either directly or indirectly from plants, which took it out of the air only recently.

Therefore, when we breathe out, all the carbon dioxide we exhale has already been accounted for. We are simply returning to the air the same carbon that was there to begin with. Remember, it's a carbon cycle, not a straight line - and a good thing, too!

Do you even Wall-E, manbro?

They are zipping around in recliners, hangin by the pool, no responsibilities besides eating and consuming and having fun.. I guess there is no blow, so no party.

no blow, no heroin, no drugs or alcohol of any kind - no naked chicks, half naked chicks, or even quarter naked chicks.

To enjoy the technological luxuries we have, you must have a trade off.

We could always shut down coal plants and go back to not having electricity. As of right now, we have no cheap alternative source of energy except for nuclear (which I support) but many don't due to the risks.

As the population grows you're going to have 2 options: Either deal with the consequences of increased consumption of energy and products/food and the needed resources to meet that demand, or have full government control and rationing.

It'll come down to we either accept that eventually there could be disastrous weather events, disease, etc that will cause deaths or shorter life spans as a natural way of population control and there's nothing we can do about it, or we will have to allow full government control of our lives meaning they control what we consume, how many kids we have, etc.

I'll take the former over the latter. I'd rather live 50 years a free man than 80 years an oppressed one.
