The problem is that most people get their information from mainstream media outlets. The authors of these articles are often untrained writers interpreting complicated subjects and regurgitating the information as they see fit.
This really can't be emphasized enough.

And the willingness to question findings and subject them to peer review is what makes science so strong. Theories are proven wrong (whether partially or completely) all the time. And every time it happens someone says "see, the scientific community was wrong again!" while ignoring the difference between something proposed as a theory vs a law.

I thought it was understood the universe is expanding and will eventually collapse. Isn't that proof that it is infinite?

Gotcha.

It's fun, isn't it?

That is a now-defunct theory that has been replaced with one that says the Universe will expand indefinitely, based on new evidence.

In the early part of the 20th century, Edwin Hubble discovered that most galaxies are moving away from us. Their red shifts say as much.

About 20 years ago, astronomers discovered that, yes, galaxies are indeed moving away from us but at an increasing speed. Moreso, the further they are from us the faster they are moving away, their red shifts are redder.

The Dark Force is apparently responsible for this phenomenon. About 5 billion years ago, the Dark Force became stronger than gravity and began pushing galaxies apart, defeating gravity's pull on them. The theory states that eventually, the Dark Force will cause even atoms and their constituent parts to fly apart, thus putting the Universe into a big freeze.

no but it does explain the existence of Gee Zeus,

it's weird to me that this is supposed to be "new" info, even 40 years ago it was accepted that the big bang was or could just be part of a process, universe expands until it can't anymore then contracts, when it can't contract anymore, big boom time, rinse... repeat. Which came first the dense matter "egg" or the big boom?

Then they came up with the god particle (the forces responsible for the forces that explain the forces that drive the forces) and of course gravitons have been around for centuries, right?

One thing is for sure, if either an atheist or a creationist tells you they "know for sure" why they are right,,, they're full of sh*t,, pay them no mind.

Every human acknowledges something pretty important happened 2015 years ago. We all take a trip to the empty tomb...some believe, some don't. But everyone admits something pretty significant happened or we wouldn't count time by it.

you do realize that the Gregorian calendar (initially the Julian calendar) became widespread due to being adopted by the Catholic church and due to colonization and it stayed in use for international trade purposes right? Some countries didn't even adopt it until the 1900s and some still don't recognize it.

Not getting into a religious thing but using the argument that the calendar says the year is 2015 to prove anything other than the fact that the year is 2015 is pretty weak. And biblical scholars consider the birth of jesus to be 4-6 BC.

I believe Jesus rose from the grave. Everyone who hears this story visits the empty tomb and either walks away believing or walks away calling bs. Your life either changes after hearing this or you continue as you were.
And I'm very aware of the differences in the actual date, but that's not the issue. He either rose from the grave or he didn't. He was either a crazy lunatic or He was the Son of God.

So we should do like the scientists and change our minds more often than the wind changes? No thanks. I live by faith; I can be consistent.

OP needs to change the title.

Big, big difference between confirm and predicts. On a related note, can you predict something in the past?

Or his story was changed after the fact by the second and third hand accounts recorded in the Gospels.

CS Lewis' "Lunatic, Liar or Lord" argument is a classic false dichotomy. The most likely scenario is simply an after the fact embellishment of his story. Think for a moment how rapidly widespread rumors can be spread even in today's information age where most things can be instantly fact checked. Now imagine how easily Jesus' story could have blown up in the months and years after his death in the first century, a time when most were illiterate and everyone was superstitious.

Guess that's what faith is for.

Same here.

It's human nature to expect there is a beginning to the universe, because life begins and ends. Our Earth and Sun and galaxy began and will end in a few billion or so years, I suppose.

We expect there to be an end all to everything, but really our Earth's energy will just be transferred somewhere else and will find use again.

So although it's impossible to fathom, there probably was no "beginning" & will be no real "end".

Now, could a great enough amount of enegy form to create a perceived God? I think this is possible, as were we created.

Because of what I posted earlier. It literally makes zero difference, IMHO. Not saying it isn't natural to wonder, but people get legit heated over the subject and it baffles me.
