I've traveled more within Texas than most folks that were born there, and plenty of it is terrible... But most people live in or around the 4 large cities, and they're not terrible.

Texas has its shite together, brah... Great economy, low cost of living, plenty of businesses moving there, great public schools, etc.

I love Texas.

It's not Mecca tho.

False. I've been all over Texas. I have zero desire to be there.

It really is beautiful. There are more incredible places within a 4-5 hour drive of San Fran than anywhere else I've ever been. The city itself, San Jose, Sausalito, Napa, Sonoma, Lake Tahoe, Half Moon Bay, Carmel/Big Sur, Mendocino, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon NP, Yosemite NP, Lassen Volcanic NP, Redwoods NP (little over 5 hours perhap), etc... It's really amazing.

The cost of living is obviously ridiculous, and the politics...

Texans excluded I don't think I've met anyone in real life who's been proud to be from a particular state and I've never thought about things in those terms.

Amen. I was worried Alabama would be higher. There are parts of this state I am flat out ashamed to claim (looking at you Black Belt)

What the frick do Texans have to be proud of? Cowboy hats and boots, nut hugging jeans, rodeos, gay arse country music and the scenery looks like something fresh out of the dirty thirties. It's the absolute most godawful state to drive through and 95% of the state is a barren wasteland.

In addition, there are more backwards arse hicks in that backwards arse state than any of the three deep south states combined.

It's laughable to know there are morons who are proud of that shite. Sure, Austin is nice, but it's a microscopic dot compared to the rest of that shite hole of a state.

The fact that the above post exists is evidence of Texas' greatness. That level of hate is reserved for things we wish we had but cannot attain.

My guess is this will change in the next 15-20 years. It will become more like California as more poor folks move there for jobs, it becomes more urbanized and the politics change to accommodate them. It will become more like California without the scenery.
