I'm most surprised they did the chant around their dates, that's the dumbest part of all of this. It was probably one of them that leaked the video.
Racism in fraternities isn't exactly uncommon, that chant in particular is one of the worst I can remember hearing. Don't really know what the solution is without disbanding the Greek system, which won't happen because Greeks run shite. I guess people will be less racist eventually, shitty situation.

Incidents like this make me glad that our set of frat morons consumed too much alcohol anally instead.

Good point

I don't care where you went to school, you've heard something similar to this. It just wasn't recorded and there was no backlash.
Never saw/heard anything even remotely similar to this at A&M.
Not saying that racist stuff hasn't ever or doesn't happen in College Station, but you're sitting here acting like it's ubiquitous regardless of campus, and that's just flat not true.

That's the part of this that surprises you most?
This whole deal blows my mind.
*poof*
The part (if it's even possible to single it to one thing) that "surprises" me is that someone would even think along the lines of singing this song--to say nothing of the fact that multiple people would.
At an institution of higher education.
Then there's the fact that no one thought to say, "Uh, seriously?"
It's ... appalling.

I didn't either, back before your father started to school at A&M. I can see it happening with a lot of alcohol in the '60s, maybe. But fer cryin' out loud, in 2015? WTF is wrong with people? Glad to see they've been booted, at least.

Yeah, and the kid who secretly taped and posted this did nothing to stop it at the time, which says to me that he was intimidated. He probably knew it was wrong but didn't have the courage to speak up on the bus.
meh
could have just as easily given up trying to stop it after being shot down that he taped it for karma's sake.

It's probably something that they have been taught in their basement on bid day for 100 years. They likely learn the chant during a contest to see which new pledge is the fastest chugger of natty light.
Group think takes over, and they sing the chant without giving though to the gravity of what they're saying means. That guy leading it on likely is a true racist and a bad person, and he will be paying for it big time.

Yet another video surfaces of the same event. These kids were really getting into this:

The guy in the tux is scary into it. I have a feeling these racist assholes have sung this song more times than UT played Rocky Top in our bowl game against Iowa.

Yeah, seeing other reports that this is part of some of the chapters pledge initiations.
The tux guy's eyes are wild while he sings this. Yeah. Scary.
His name will be known tomorrow too.
The KKK wore hoods when they did their dirty deeds for a reason. Even 100 years ago.

I honestly can't tell if you're being serious or not.

I'm being dead serious, I guarantee you they learned that chant in a very similar fashion to how I described. It's not something they would have formally learned with pledge tests or something. I can't believe how bad it is or that they still do the chant, just letting you know how things likely got started.

They're currently under police protection while moving their shite out of the house according to twitter
Posted on 3/9/15 at 1:18 am to Oxford
Yeah. I saw where a crowd gathered around the house to protest them tonight.

If what you describe is true, the fact that this chapter had a single pledge who didn't walk out the door, after being told to "sing" this song for the very first time says all that needs to be said.

I think I'd let my stuff in the house stay there.
