The 100 push-ups being equivalent to cardio and the Arnold "quote" make me believe he is trolling.

It sucks, doesn't it?

Got a bad left knee and a bad right ankle conspiring to sabotage my leg days. The most weight those joints can tolerate isn't nearly enough to get what I consider to be a proper workout. Just compensate as best as I can.

i can lunge fine these days even with pretty heavy kettlebells.

MFing running just destroys me. 4 years of cross country and 6 years of track have turned me into a downright vagina in my mid 30s.

I'm 38 but I think my right knee is 68.

Lunges freaking kill me. Braces only do so much. Just gotta work around it.

My running is short distance sprinting. I can't do distance and honestly my body type benefits more from sprints.

So if I had a friend that suffered from assus minimus, would squats help him?

Again, just asking hypothetically, for a friend

The irony for me is lunges used to be my favorite

I usually favor the stationary bike for cardio. Doing that with basketball usually helps get me the cardio I need. Just gotta be careful with the balling like you are with the lunges.

As far as the only push-ups argument, I don't agree at all. However, I was in the best shape of my life when I was at OSUT at Fort Benning and there wasn't a barbell in sight. Body weight exercises can be effective but is not the most efficient.

Push-ups, pull-ups, flutter kicks, 60/120's, five mile fun runs and rucking were pretty much all we did. I was lean when I got there because I was already doing ROTC at Bama( which I did a lot of 11 mile battle buddy runs on Jack Warner) I actually gained about nine pounds because I pretty much lived in the push up position for two different phases of basic.

I'm literally old enough to be your daddy ... and I can honestly say that I'd have another heart attack if I tried to run another 10k these days.

But back when I was your age I was running in the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston every year ... and I can tell you, it's the inclines that really kick your butt.

frick running. I ETS in November of 2017 and that will be the end my running days...for-fricking-ever.

I became addicted to the gym while in Kuwait, though. I gained 20 lbs over there and got in the absolute best shape of my life. My goal was to join the 1,000lb Club before I left and I got it the week before we came back. I had never lifted weights in my life before I got there and ended up with these numbers in the "big 3":

Bench press - 265 lbs
Squat - 345 lbs
Deadlift - 425 lbs

I hate that I've fallen off since I got home, but stateside life with a new kid will do that to you. I'm still lifting every day (I got myself a power rack and some Olympic weights so I don't even have to go to a gym), but I'm just not able to work out as long as I did over there. Thankfully I've only lost around 4-5 lbs since I got back and I seem to have stabilized there.

Got my fitbit charge.

Been watching what I eat, and I try to get 10k steps and 10 floors every day.

Dropped 6 pounds so far.

Those aren't bad numbers at all, mind if I ask what height/weight you did those at??

5'10"/180lbs

I trained 5-6 days a week for 9 months. Like I said, I had never done any weight lifting prior to that. I've been in the military for 7 years, so I've been working out but really just body weight stuff.

Now I can't get enough. If I go more than a day or two without hitting the weights I get crazy.
