I don't really give kudos to Obama with doing good here when it was his justice department oversaw the escalation of police force and brutality over the last couple of years.
I will credit him for seeing that tDoJ made a a mistake and scaling it back. Something his predecessor seemed pretty incapable of doing. In the words of Mr. Hammond " I don't blame people for their mistakes, but I do ask that they pay for them."
But I do think that this is a pretty agnostic political issue. I don't think Joe Voter was happy to see the militarization of police as it was happening in the late 2000s on either side of the aisle. While we didn't see the police force flaunt their MRAPs and RPGs, we did see a lot of police not showing restraint in situations where it might have happened before the escalation.

This just means those funds and equipment will be earmarked for the new Federal Police Force Obama is implementing.
