I have. and if I ever do spend time searching for news stories, I gravitate toward them as a source.
Honestly, I just usually have better things to do with my time than follow news stories. Probably because I got a lot of scuttlebutt about current events from my and wifey's jobs.

There is one president since 1990 when this program was implemented that was militarizing police at an 'alarming' rate. He's the one who wants a pat on the back for 'scaling back', not stopping. We can all HOPE he reverts to the Bush or Clinton level of militarizaion.

Grenade launchers
Camo uniforms
Bayonets
.50-cal and up weapons
Weaponized aircraft
In other words, he's keeping police from getting the things they don't usually get now and don't really want.

State and local police departments often do want these items, and they use the War on Drugs as a pretense to obtain them. It's not just the weapons themselves, the militarization of police is a consequence of this funding. The streets become occupied territory and average citizens become the enemy, to paraphrase Bunny Colvin from The Wire.
