Calling you stupid doesn't automatically make me an Obama supporter. But if you really think he wants to destroy the country so we can be the world's bitch, well I'm sorry but you're a moron.

People must realize that the two parties kinda switched philosophies in the 60s and 70s.

I said that was worst case scenario not that I 100% unequivocally believe that. He's made some decisions (immigration, Iran nuclear deal) that would lead the most rational person to question that. The other possibility is that he's simply a puppet of Soros.

Maybe you should look at how many people were granted amnesty under the last few Republican presidents.

At least he's not fricking Reagan. You know, making sure that drug offenders lose their property and spend time in jail for dumb shite. Yeah, that dipshit.

So, FDR was a Republican then?

Got it.

Thanks for the history lesson.

Honest question - are you old enough to remember the Reagan presidency?

If not, let me give you a little history lesson. During his entire presidency, Reagan never once enjoyed the luxury of having the Republican party control both the House and Senate. In fact, Republicans never got within 50 seats of controlling the House during his term. For most of it, the Democrats held an 80+ seat majority.

So, not one single piece of legislation was passed without the support of Thomas P 'Tip' O'Neal (or Jim Wright for the last year). Tip O'Neal was about as far left as you could possibly imagine - the exact polar opposite of Reagan.

Now, more to the point the Anti-Drug Abuse Act, which seems to be the point of your rant, passed in 1986. The makeup of the House at that time was 253(D) to 182(R). The Senate was 47(D) to 53(R).

The bill was introduced by Jim Wright (DEMOCRAT), who was later elected speaker after Tip O'Neal retired. It passed the House 392-16 (96% in favor) and the Senate 97-2 (97% in favor).

You can't get get that much bipartisan support for a resolution declaring the sky to be blue.

But sure, go ahead and blame Reagan for a bill introduced by a Democrat and almost unanimously supported by every single congressional member of both parties.

And while we're on it, the modern war on drugs was launched by one Lyndon B Johnson when he created the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs - which went on to become the modern DEA. Remind me again which party was Johnson's?

Reagan knew how to compromise, probably learned how to while Gov of California. I think O'neal and Reagan both respected each other and didn't take politics personally (both being older might have been why).

The south was mostly democratic in the 80's and mostly conservative type democrats. Having a democratic majority in the house didn't hurt Reagan to bad as long as he could pull some across the isle.

I think the south turning solid red and losing some of the old Blue Dog democrats has hurt the dialogue.

They said they were friends after 6 pm.

Using my other example, you couldn't find a more opposite pair than Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich but they worked together and the country went on a fantastic run of success.

Reagan/O'Neal had the advantage of pre-dating the 24/7 news cycle/internet/talk radio but Clinton/Gingrich had to deal with talk radio, 24/7, and something of an internet to contend with but still managed to thrive.

Again I think there just aren't good leaders right now and Obama fully fits into that category.
