Its all the Homeland Security money. Its use it or lose it, so everyone buys the craziest shite they can. Does Does Moines, Iowa need an APC? No. Do they have one thanks to Homeland grants. Probably.
Which is pretty crazy. It's amazing how that money gets shelled out.
I live here in Las Vegas, where we have a pretty decent percentage of foreign visitors, and a pretty high percentage of fundamentalists on both sides that would like the see us destroyed.
Yet, we get cut on our funding constantly. And here we are discussing Des Moines potential APC or Missoula, Montana's APC. Because the money is split politically instead of necessarily. It's dumb.
Once you get beyond the New Yorks, San Franciscos, Chicagos, of the US that need real New York style support, Las Vegas has got to be on the top of the lower level list, Yet it's not.
It's dumb.

There's a reason I said Iowa. When the grants were first developed they were supposed to be based on threat level. Obviously, that's not what occurred.

Right, and why Iowa got some money. Electoral votes/caucuses rule versus actual threats.
We're literally in a place where a fundamental Christian would want to bomb us as well as a radical islamist. Yet, we're never on any list for additional funding.
There are literally millions of people that travel through out airport from all corners of the globe. We used to have sniffers that would try to figure out if a biological agent had been released here (makes sense to release it here, given the international tourism) and those were cut out.
It's just dumb. I don't know that Des Moines has an APC, but they shouldn't. Yet they will because of political geography.
I seriously think that's why Nevada moved our primary up, we're tired of being shite on in these kinds of things, and it's the way the politics work.
And that's sad.

Tupelo has a helicopter.
Des Moines has two (not one) $180k robots to deal with bombs.
The OSU has an MRAP.

Crazy gonna crazy whether they have a gun or not.
Ironically, we're not even Top 10 in murder rates across the globe.
We're not even remotely close to the country with the largest gun homicide rate at this point (both graphs are from 2012 I believe).
Gun homicide is very unfortunate. I don't have a problem with enforcing the laws we have that try to curtail whose hands the guns fall into. But there's definitely been some sensationalization regarding gun homicide here.

Isn't it weird how datagraphs work?
The difference between 0-2.99 (3 points) is one shade, 3.00-4.99 (2 points) is another.
5.00-9.99 (5 points) is one more, 10.00-19.99 (10 points) is another 20.00-29.99 (10 points again) 30+ is another.
All I'm saying, is that if all the divisions were equal, America wouldn't be a darker shade than any of our buddies.
Hell, even move the shades to every 5 points and we're the same as our buddies.
Graphs determine opinions, just realize why.

New mayor grounded it a while back because the necessity didn't justify the cost of upkeep and fuel.

And yet, zero firearms have ever been prosecuted.

Yes I know that's the kind of world you like to live in. I would prefer one where no one had a handgun.
Not possible. The bad guys have guns.
Now decide, do you want to defend yourself against them with a club or a gun? Which one would help you defend your daughter better?
