Actually, the data didn't even differentiate between "rifles" and "assault weapons". How many of those rifle murders were from single-shots, lever-actions, and bolt-actions? The left would like us to believe that even every "rifle" murder was an AR-15 or AK-47, but I doubt that's the case.

Exactly my point. This whole gun control movement threw around AR-15 and assault style weapon to try and scare stupid people, and for the most part...it worked.

North Hollywood shootout is the last time I can remember. And they were illegally modified then.

Aren't gun crimes at record low rates overall?

Seems like they should just outlaw murder and all of this goes away.

When is the last time an "assault" weapon killed anyone in the US? Weapons resembling them have killed people, but I don't recall a true full auto weapon being used recently.

Well then, change the definition to support your intended result.

Then why are they going after "assault weapons"? Most of these murders are being committed with Lorcins and Hi-Points, not semi-automatic rifles.

They are going after assault weapons because they are to pussified to go after handguns

They should be. More and more people are starting to realize that the police likely won't be there in time to save them, so their security lies primarily with them. People like having their handguns. I never leave home without mine.

Maybe they should go after the type of people that own handguns instead of the guns themselves

Yes I know that's the kind of world you like to live in. I would prefer one where no one had a handgun. It's a personal thing I guess. I'm a bad arse shot, but somehow everybody packing does not make me go 'there, now things are safe for my daughter'. And handguns favor the person who draws first. Is that going to be you are the person with criminal intent?

That would most often times, depend on how well you keep yourself aware of your surroundings.

That world will never exist in this country. So, we should probably just go ahead and stop with that line of thinking.

I'd prefer to be in a scenario like Switzerland where a good portion of the households have their handguns from military service eliminated of their automatic capability and held in their homes.

It seems to me that since there will never be an America where there aren't guns, we should probably set some sort of scenario up where most people have them and those with ill intent will know they have a decent shot of being met with equal firepower.

Actually a better way to put this is if my daughter needs to be with someone armed to go anywhere or to be at school that seems like a third world country

Or just be as armed as you can reasonably be and trust your skills while acting like a normal person.

The fact is, 99.99% of the time you have no need to worry about being armed at home or in public.

The problem lies in that in the 0.01% of the time that you need to be armed and are not, the consequence may very well be no more chances to pad the stats.
