Whether you like the Beatles or not, to say they blow is retarded. Their influence on modern music can not be over estimated. I'm not a huge a Beatles fan, but I realize what they did was pretty amazing.

Your first statement followed by the Nirvana comment is pure comedy gold.

They were the first boy band, I'll give them that. Teenage girls everywhere went ape shite over them.

Can the eagles be overrated if so many people think they suck?

I don't understand why so many people are mentioning KISS. Most people realize they aren't great musicians. Even the band members say they aren't good. People like KISS because of the show they put on.

I'm sure KISS puts on a good show. I just don't know if it matches the hype. Just my first thought. Imo, talented, groundbreaking, and creative musicians (the Beatles) should get more respect and deserve more praise in comparison.

Maybe it's also bc Gene Simmons
thinks they are the best ever...

They absolutely should.

But some people equate "I don't personally like that band" with "they suck and they're overrated"

Aerosmith definitely should be on the list. Their early stuff was great but after they cleaned up and sold out to MTV they became almost unlistenable. Made me sick to see an Aerosmith tribute show and they didn't pick anything prior to the mid '80s.

Nirvana is overrated not because they weren't great but because they get credited far too often as being THE group that took grunge mainstream. Pearl Jam deserves every bit if not more credit than Nirvana and before Cobain died Pearl Jam was the bigger deal. Cobain just made the perfect tragic character, he was the Buddy Holly of his era that through his death made himself into an icon when otherwise he would have been one of many. It's downright insulting when they act as though Nirvana is what made grunge mainstream, Nirvana was one of many. I also hate them all because they killed rock and roll and I am insulted when people call grunge the voice of Generation X.

U2. Never got the U2 love. I mean Bono is a cool dude and they have a few decent songs but it seems like they are more successful off of their coolness factor than the music.

I am not a big Beatles guy but I don't know how anyone can call them overrated. They absolutely dominated the '60s music wise and made an incredible diversity of music in what was really about a 6 year run. They truly pushed the envelope and had no fear. The early stuff was bubble gum but the later stuff is really amazing.

Yes, they started as a pop band. A pop band that brought blues, R&B and soul music to the masses, that never would have heard it otherwise. Just look at all the black artists that saw giant surges in popularity afterward.

And if you don't understand the greatness they accomplished in about a four year period, then you probably havent listened to much of their music.

You're a fricking idiot if you think VH is overrated. They ushered in a new era of hard rock in the late 1970s much like Nirvana did in the early 1990s. Of course, I suspect you were still dragging on the tit at the time and are unaware of this bit of history.
