If we're talking about individual music acts, Madonna has to be #1. I just don't understand her appeal. She's not a particularly good singer, can't really play any instruments, is a mediocre lyricist and isn't particularly attractive. Yet her staying power is amazing. It's been over 30 years since her first album and she's still one of the biggest selling artists in music.

Who the frick overrates RUSH? They aren't exactly a hit among critics...

I don't know what the critics say, I just know that in real life conversations, I've heard more over the top rants about the technical precision and brilliant songwriting of Rush than I have for any other performer.

I don't hate Rush, they've just never done much for me. More than anything, and more than anyone else, they stand out to me for the way the way wannabe music snobs talk about them.

Madonna can sing. She's a scumbag, but talented.

Overrated:

Madonna? Lol. She single handedly invented the female pop star icon image and had the talent and attitude to back it up. Try again.

Also, I'd like to add that Prince is the most underrated artist of all time. IMHO.

The most overrated musician of all time is Eric Clapton. All the good music he was a part of was written by others. He obviously contributed with his serviceable guitar playing but the best work he was associated with should be contributed to the likes of Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, Duane Allman, George Harrison etc. He was like the Forrest Gump of music. He just managed to find himself in the middle of history without adding anything to it.

Everything that he did as solo artist is unlistenable.

To quote Anal count in their touching piece, "Your kid committed suicide because you suck"

quote:

ERIC CLAPTON SUCKS, ERIC CLAPTON SUCKS ERIC CLAPTON'S GAY,
AND HE'S frickING GAY
YOUR FATHER IS THE 4TH WORST SONG WRITER AFTER SPRINGSTEEN, SEGER AND PETTY
YOU WERE SICK OF HIS GAY frickING SONGS SO YOU JUMPED OUT A REALLY HIGH UP WINDOW
YOUR FATHER SUCKS SO frickING BAD
YOU KNEW YOU'D GET BEATEN UP AT SCHOOL
YOU WERE SICK OF HEARING "YOU LOOK WONDERFUL TONIGHT" SO YOU JUMPED OUT A REALLY HIGH UP WINDOW
SOMETIMES I WISH YOU DIDEN'T DIE BECAUSE I HATE THE SONG "TEARS IN HEAVEN" I WAS GLAD YOU DIED UNTIL I HEARD THAT SONG
AND KEVIN SHARP IS GAY

The Grateful Dead- pathetic
Aerosmith- I like 'em, but they only have a few good songs off of every album, excluding Rocks.
Bob Marley- just can't get into his shite
Duran Duran- sissy boys from the 80's
REM- I'm sure popular in the south, just felt they were pretty mediocre.
Any Rap band- just not into this type of music (a few songs are okay)

I hate Rush with the fire of a thousand suns. It's tragic how much people like them.

I don't disagree with the rest of your list. I would add Black Eyed Peas and Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band.

I would also have to add all those bands like The Grateful Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic, etc.
