Like I said in my carry thread, I have a Ruger LC9. I love it, but anything made by that company is top notch. You should definitely check them out.

Yeah it is but when configured in 50 cal it's like $5 every time you pull the trigger. The damn thing is surprisingly accurate. I can put 7 inside a silver dollar at 50 yrds with a half assed rest. I got a friend who is a much better long range pistol shooter than I am that can shoot a 2" group with his at 100 yds from a weaver stance. But he is a competition shooter and that's all he does. I wish I was half as good as he is freehand

Well, shite, I wish I could shoot as well as you.

Someday, I'm gonna put together the reloading kit at my dad's house, and I'm gonna start putting some work in with that 38 Super.

I used to shoot a lot. I don't have the time anymore plus I live in town now and not out in the sticks where I had my own little range set up.

38 Super.

Is a good cal to target shoot with not to hard on you with recoil and stout enough to transfer your mechanics to a larger cal with little trouble.

Seems everyone has a Glock or an XD!

Because they are damn good guns.

I've had Glocks since 1990. Plenty of other good guns out there, but the reliability and easy breakdown and cleaning, along with accuracy, will keep me always leaning to Glock. My choice for carry:

Glock
S&W 642 revolver

any other semi auto

Man, I love that gun. Taurus 1911 chambered in the 38 Super. It's discontinued, which is a shame, because it's a great model.

Yeah I had a Colt 1911 in 38 Super once upon a time. It was a fun gun to shoot.

Gen 4 glock 17 or 19.

If you're looking for conceal go 19.

The glock will chew through pretty much any ammo and is extremely easy to clean. Not to mention it's extremely accurate.

Springfield Armory XDM 3.8 Compact in 9mm. You can conceal carry with the shortag and range shoot with then extended mag, makes it a full size. I have researched and triedany and that is what I will be purchasing. Its in your budget and is a very good handgun.

OP - Don't buy a composite handgun unless you want to own a puddle of oil in a decade or two.

I am a confessed Beretta bigot and highly recommend the Beretta Cougar in 9 or .40.
You can only find them in the resale market.

After that it's the Beretta 96FS or a 92FS.
96 = .40 cal, 92 is a 9 mil. What's really nice is that you can also buy a .22 practice kit and shoot your 9 or .40 as a .22.

Check them out before you buy.

I've got a Walther P99 and a S&W Shield. Both good guns in 9mm.

My favorite is my Colt Commander (1911, .45).

Kahn 9mm. Either P9 or PM9

I have dealt with a ton of CC guns as a former gun salesman. If it were my money, with what I've seen in and out of gunsmith shop and at the range, that's what I'd buy. Great handguns.

ETA: second choice would be Walther

Now that Walther USA is based in Ft. Smith, I have to throw my support behind them.

I was originally looking at getting a Smith and Wesson M&P9, but after shooting them I'm not a huge fan. I really liked shooting the Walther PPQ, though. You can get them off of Bud's Gun Shop for a lot cheaper than you can find at most retail. You just have to talk to a local gunshop and pay a ~$30 fee to get it shipped to an FFL.

eta: See a few P99 recommendations. The PPQ is basically the next generation P99 and was designed to replace it. I'm sure the P99 works just as well and you probably couldn't go wrong with either, but I haven't had a chance to shoot a P99.
