They aren't being sold. Will likely be donated to one of Mitch's friends, so he can make money on them.
Was already offered to place them on the land of Jefferson Davis' last home, till New Orleans wanted them back. Mitch basically told them to frick off.
Also, Mitch hasn't exactly proven to have the cities best interest, as a priority.

Thanks for getting this thread back on topic and away from the black kid who is race baiting and his two white guilt sidekicks.

So this "Mitch" guy ... Mitch Landreux I guess huh? He's just out to cleanse the city of any and all Southern Heritage, is that it?

Because, I came to find out this morning that it's not just the statue and monument in Lee Circle ... there are three or four others included in this particular book burning, and he says he intends to have everything ever related to the Confederacy removed from NOLA before he leaves office according to what I was told.

I was speaking with one of my cousins who actually lives downtown, he's a little older than me, and he said this Mitch fella is introducing some kind of mayoral executive order (sic: ordnance) to the city council to remove everything, even change long time street names and rename them after black activists and relatively modern musicians.

And the President Andrew Jackson memorial is on the chopping block as well ... because Mitch claims it is offensive to Native Americans.

In all, Richard told me, there are 71 streets and another 36 monuments in danger of being removed or/and destroyed.

When I asked him about the prospect of the statues and monuments being moved to a more appropriate places perhaps, he said all the monuments, all the statues, are currently under assault. He said they are now constantly being vandalized and that they cannot move fast enough. He believed that was Landreux's (sp?) intent ... to incite the vandalism and then just have the monuments torn down, regardless of how the whole thing appears to be tearing the city apart.

Unbeknownst to me until this morning, he put his place on Esplanade up for sale in January. After 50 years in NOLA, he's finally had enough. Damn, we loved staying there when we'd go to visit ... it's just a damn shame. This is all just a damn shame that people cannot handle this better and respect everyone else and reach some sort of an acceptable compromise.

Calling him 'dishonest' is being very generous. He's the one that started the race baiting by stating that the "angry blacks" were going to beat the statue.

A racist, a fear monger, AND a liar. My, my, my . He's definitely a confederate.

You weren't exactly helping the situation either.
This is more than a black/white issue. Its about how America has gotten the idea, that no one should be offended. If you can have 300 million people in one country, and no one is offended, that is one lame, boring country.
This is an article, saying some of what you were told about all symbols.

an article from December about others statues

And I can't blame your cousin. Trying to tear down history, while allowing criminals free run of the city.

Yeah, well, it was late and they made it personal.

Not only is it boring ... it's impossible.

That article expressed my sentiments exactly! I just forwarded it to Richard ... it's exactly what we were talking about.

Yeah, we talked in depth about the crime thing but I dared not mention it here ... the race-baiter would have turned that into the fault of slavery and the mean old white people as well.

It's all so pathetic, it really is.

It's time for certain people to own it ... embrace it, get over it and fix the real problem.

Desecration of monuments, erasing of history, disrespect of others, book burning, stomping on Constitutional Rights are all just excuses to take over ... it only makes things worse, but they just don't get it.

That article is an excellent read and thank you for sharing.

They have been all over the Monument removal from the beginning, while the rest of the media, was too afraid to sound racist.
There is FB page, "Save our Circle". They have fought the removal, but you also get a lot of articles, from both sides shared there.

It's not erasing history. It's choosing not to memorialize traitors to the United States of America. It shouldn't be that difficult of a concept. It just so happens that most of our ancestors who are from the south were a part of the lost cause.

This. I don't know why some people make such a simple and obvious concept so difficult

It's usually a combination of misplaced pride, insensitivity, overreaction to political correctness, passive-aggressive racism, traditionalism, and/or garden-variety stubbornness.

Probably some I'm not listing, but those are a few of the hoops apologists jump through to convolute the concept.

It is what it is.

As racist as it gets. The obvious answer is he was born here, he's in his homeland.

If you want to make it ancestral homeland than he can go back once you return to scotchIreland.

and if NO wants to remove some of their statues you want the feds and the courts to take away their freedom to do so and impose their will. You big government, activist, liberal, asshat.

The issue some have with the removal was the bs way the decision was made.

If the citizenry votes then do what they want. But it was done behind closed doors then a council vote with no real opposition allowed to speak.

I asked earlier what legal opinion did the judge use to uphold the opinion? As the original decision, as I just stated, was done very strange.

I do not agree with removing said statues but it does not cause me to loose sleep

But if the city goes around and renames streets for African American persons you can argue that's as discriminatory and inflammatory as their first action.

It's a very very tightrope these government operations need to walk, I'm not paid to make these decisions, nor do I want to.

I would encourage you to actually study the Civil War before making these profound statements.

If you'd prefer the comfortable moral superiority that ignorance provides, well, then you could always move up north. At least there people will agree with you.
