Should be a spin-off thread...Of the people who believe he existed, how many think he was just an ordinary person.

Why? Why even ask the question?

I mean 2000+ years later he has 2 billion plus followers.

He was obviously not "just an ordinary person."

I think the better question would be, for all atheists especially ... is what do you really have against Jesus? In his teachings, what do you disagree with? For that matter, in the Bible, what is it exactly that you so vehemently disagree with?

What?

The Ten Commandments?

Turn the other cheek?

An eye for an eye?

Love thy neighbor?

What?

And 1350 years later Muhammad has 1.5 billion followers, but clearly both figures cannot have been divinely inspired as their messages are mutually exclusive.

Why does one have to disagree with his social/moral teachings to believe he wasn't God? This is a false dichotomy.

You need a category for those who believe he might have existed by was just a rabbi and not a God and no longer exists.

What about hitting your kid with rocks until they're dead because they were disrespectful?

Yeah? So?

Jews did that ... not Christians.

And to the best of my knowledge Jews ended the practice some 2000 years ago.

Whereas, Muslims still do it to this day.

So what's your point? Stoning, that's it? That's the deal-breaker for you?

Do you believe these?

If you do how do you feel about war or the death penalty?

Jesus existed; however, he doesn't exist anymore.

Today is an admission-free day at Orlando's Holy Land attraction. You can have your picture taken with Jesus there.

War is human nature ... especially in a globalized world.

The death penalty is necessary in some extreme situations.

But the Bible, as are all written forms and accounts of various philosophies/philosophers/prophets/et al, is contradictory at times. It's just a guidebook, open to interpretation.

Jesus existed and had several good teachings. It is my personal opinion that he was mortal.

Why single out atheists?

Why not question followers of Hinduism, Shamanism, Confucianism, Buddhism, Animism, or any of the MANY other beliefs that predate christianity?

Because they're not constantly being douchebags and mocking people on the internet and shoving their beliefs in your face.

Christians do that, and atheists do it the most. I had some Buddhist cult proselytize to me at one point but that's about it. Atheists are the fricking worst.

Personally, I'd call that one about even.
