I'm kind of upset about that whole aspect of the books vs the series. Apparently HBO's people know how it is supposed to end. If that is the case and they finish the series before the books I think it is a huge slap in the face to Martin's readers.
I actually think at this point they're going to be splitting the books into at least two seasons a piece from here on out. That should give plenty of time for Martin to churn out at least one other book.

I'm really hoping so, but these fantasy authors take their sweet time.
I got started on the Wheel of Time Series when I was in grade school. The final book came out this January. What's worse is the original author died with three books left to go.
To be honest though his work had fallen of with his health and the new author brought some much needed life and closure into the series.

Damn I hate to hear that. There is nothing to say but I've been in that situation too much. I know it is hard to wrap your head around.
