When the Adams returned home with their children, they allowed police inside to inspect the home where they found feces all throughout the house, including on the living room floor and on child's toys. The investigating officer reported finding feces in every room of the house as well as large amounts of trash, old food, dog vomit and dirty clothes. The officer noted four dogs living in the home that appeared to be tracking the feces onto furniture and throughout the house. The officer said there didn't appear to be any place in the home where the children could avoid exposure to the squalid conditions. He went on to report that, "In over 10 years of law enforcement, these were the worst conditions I have ever observed where children lived." During an interview with police, La Trisha Adams admitted to knowing the home was very dirty but claimed she never knew about the feces on the toys and said she never went past the kitchen. Jeffery Adams admitted to knowing about the conditions and claimed he had last cleaned the house the day before.
