I had to come back to Juneau. This is where I find peace. I also owe my wife a lot for marrying me when I was a mess.

I've done it, and have gone to a few meetings in town. It's important to hear from the old timers once in a while, and to tell the new people your story. I don't attend regularly though.

I've been to all kinds of rehab. You pick up pieces to put together like a puzzle everywhere you go.

There is a reason other than alcoholism that I don't see them.

I wish I had done this. I was very arrogant and felt I was immune, or could quit before it was too late. The only problem being most don't realize how bad it is until it's too late.

I understand that. It it rarely one thing.

I totally support not drinking, but I think sometimes the drinking is more of a symptom than a cause.

I think id be able to avoid that road. I've never really been physically addicted to anything and once I settle down I'll have myself occupied with other stuff.

Eta: I had a stupid workload pre-finals this year and quit for the better part of a month. Didn't miss it much, really.

Whatever your past transgressions have been, they will accept your apology.

True statement! There has been much tragedy in my life; most of my family is dead or estranged, tornadoes, and abuse. I probably need to go talk to someone but I am scared of what I may find out.

Drinking numbs that.

My first ten years of drinking was just partying/relieving boredom.

My second bout started when I lost a friend in a small plane crash in which I survived, and some infidelity in my marriage immediately afterwards. I was having a hard time dealing with those things, and alcohol really helped.

Holy shite! You survived a plane crash? Sir, you were meant to be on this planet.

Seriously, I was raised by a group of bad people. I have become college educated and have done my best to get away from the standards they have set. Believe me when I say this is hereditary.

No.

Now, when I was drinking, I smoked. But only when I drank, which turned out to be damn near all the time. When I gave up booze, I gave up smoking.

I did some work at a strip club outside Wasilla for a couple of years, which allowed me to drink for free while I was there. My ex S/O and I supplied dancers, DJ services and security to some establishments in the areas West of Wasilla, Ak. In those days, it was like the wild west.

Well man, it sounds like you beat some odds. Good for you! I hope you find your way man. You seem like a good person and better than you give yourself credit for.

For some reason I can drink harder in my old age. I've had hangovers in college that put me down for the rest of the weekend. I can get far more plowed now and it's nothing that can't be cured in an hour with a 32 oz. bottle of Gatorade.

What is it?

I'm dumb. I thought you were referring to a magical hangover cure.
