Classic functioning alcoholic here. I never miss work or an appointment but I never miss a drink either.

It pissed me off so much I checked out, found the nearest liquor store and got drunk.

At least your alcoholism led you to create a better username than nearly everyone here

I guess that's where I fit in too. I feel that I am moving deeper than that though. Similar the Roger

Sure made me feel better...

I got to the point where I suffered reverse tolerance, which means you're dying. I went back to La after Katrina and volunteered for the Red Cross for a few months hoping to find who I used to be. Spent a year fighting the booze pretty hard til I ended up married, and she was supportive of my recovery. Moved back here which was a bit scary since I had burned a few brides, but found people were very forgiving.

One thing that I wonder, If I will ever be able to go and have a couple of beers with friends without getting crazy?

I can, but it's really only because I know I have to drive home and limit myself. I tend to have a harder time doing so when I am not driving.

Everyone has a different degree of restraint.

I know it sounds romantic, but you are better off without it. I have never met someone who told me they regretting not drinking. Just move on, the weirdness will pass.

I did my fair share of drugs when I was younger but I don't do anything else really. I occasionally will take a bong rip but that's once a month or so.

I'd love to have a beer with friends, but it's all or nothing with me. I'd be out of control in a month or so.

Not to lay on the congrats too thickly in the middle of the marathon, but you have run it well thus far. With you nothing but the best, and hope each day continues to be easier than the last.

Liver gets to where it doesn't produce the enzymes in levels necessary to process alcohol (and some drugs)

Alcohol keeps me kind of funny sometimes but mostly the the humor comes from trying to keep out of depression (effect of the booze). I say a lot of ridiculous shite on here too; also booze.

My jovial personality is a direct effect of the alcohol.
