Well I couldn't afford it either. One of the many reasons I stopped was the relatively massive amount of credit card debt I had rang up.

I live in Tuscaloosa and my business is walking distance to the watering hole. Really easy for me to just head there after work to play Golden Tee and knock 10 beers and 4-5 shots.

I wasnt drinking quite that much, but I definitely polished off two-three bottles of liquor and a couple packs of beer a week regularly. Probably around 10-12 drinks 5-6 nights a week.

I've definitely spent a LOT of money on alcohol. One day, I will sit down and get a good estimate of the number. Might help me put things in perspective.

I had 2 that I applied for myself. My parents were sooooo mad. Definitely the maddest I've ever seen them. I'm not from money, they couldn't help me out of it.

Been sober for a few years but I was a classic alcoholic. Struggled for years to get sober.

That's badass.

I should say that a portion of that would go to people that I went out with. I was that idiot guy that would get loaded and start insisting he buy his buddies some shots so they would get wasted too.

Thinking back, it really is incredibly difficult to imagine that I was this person just a little over a year ago and I actually managed to graduate on time.

What did you do to quit? Have you drank since?

I've been through all kinds of treatment, been to jail, lost jobs, women, homes, done things I would never have done. I got married again, and she helped me to find something to focus on beyond myself.

Haven't had a drink since 2008.

Good for you man!

I'm not quite in the situation you put yourself in but, I could see happening if keep going down this road.

I was a narcissist. I felt I was the one person on the earth who could drink all I wanted and suffer no consequence.

There's a difference between a drinking problem and alcoholism, but one leads to the other.

Well I haven't had a drink in a week. I feel good physically but, mentally I'm a little off. Just been in the habit of doing the same thing for so long and now, nothing.

I drank quite a bit from the ages of 20-30. Quit, wasn't addicted but was getting close. Picked it up again a few years later and went f'king wild.

That's awesome. Keep it up brother.

As for me, I drink beer on the reg. Not sure if I have a problem or not. Can totally understand the feeling lost part though. I usually come home, open a beer and hit tennis balls for the dogs in the backyard when I get home from work. Couple years back I broke my arm and since google is our friend I read something that said alcohol keeps bones from healing properly so I went cold turkey (and could not play with the dogs due to the arm). I would get home from work and think "should I just go to bed." Lasted a bit before I got over it. Ended up watching that season of the Bachelor. Bucket list check.

One thing that I wonder, If I will ever be able to go and have a couple of beers with friends without getting crazy?

Yeah, I spent one winter as a caretaker at a lodge. Basically me and my S/O were the only ones within 50 miles with nothing to do but drink. When I got back to Anchorage I had pancreatitis had to check into a hospital. The did a sonogram on me organs and said my liver and pancreas were in very bad shape, and the next drink I had my be my last. It pissed me off so much I checked out, found the nearest liquor store and got drunk.
