I am in my 50s, and I don't remember anything about any of that stuff, and I don't know anyone, white or black, that was involved in any of it.
I tell you though, I travel all over the country, and I have yet to see a place where white and black live together better than Alabama.

Go do some research on your own. You wont get any serious answer from the OT board.

Not joking about that, I mean, you can hear some racist remarks from both sides, but when it gets down to the nitty gritty, people act like human beings should IMO,and I promise you, I am a long way from being uninformed about such things.

This is what I'm talking about.

Meh, my life experiences and the places I've lived/been have given me substantial perspective on the matter, as well.
There are plenty of places in the nation where whites/blacks get along better than Alabama.

OK Tbird, can you name one where the population of both races is spread out as equally? Where living together is an everyday thing?
I mean, they might love you in Wisconsin, if you are the only Brother in the whole county, but it's an entirely different set of circumstances.
I'm not the kind of guy that is gonna tell you how many black friends I have, shite, I just try to bullshite my way through everyday, and enjoy it as much as I can, with whoever is making me laugh. I think because of that, people talk to me in a relaxed way, so maybe I don't catch some of the bad feelings, but it's also possible that it is just "show"n the first place.

This was not the question at all.

This isn't a phenomenon unique to Alabama.

Granted. I'm hardly talking about Wisconsin, though

Cool, and I'll not name how many white friends I have It's irrelevant, anyways.

Right there with ya I think that's the best way to live.
I don't have any beef with you or with the state of Alabama. Hell, I was born there, as I mentioned earlier in this thread. I just think it's a mite disingenuous to hold up the state as a bastion of racial harmony. It's not the worst place in the world, but it damn sure ain't the best. And that's ok--takes awhile to reverse stuff that was so ingrained a scant time ago, you know?
But at the end of the day, these are just our opinions, of course.

Tbird, why do black people steal shite out of my drive way?
Posted on 1/11/15 at 1:37 am to deeprig9
Because you touch yourself at night.

yep, they are just our opinions, but what else matters? Nobody can tell us how to think, we can live in this same world everyday, see exactly the same things,at the same time, and still have different opinions of it, like blind men describing the elephant.

I get angry when white people come in my store and act weird or make comments cause black people were in there or just left.... I also get angry cause black people ask me 500 questions about how much something costs... then buy some form of brandy or cognac. Neither really tip me enough to warrant a valid response on which are better tippers... but from past experience, if you are a woman you will get tipped more.

Weird, but predictable responses in this thread. Me, I'm looking forward to seeing it. No I wasn't alive during that time, but it's fascinating to me that I'm only one generation removed from it.
And I've seen a few comments that racism and segregation was goin on everywhere at the time, not just Alabama. While true, unfortunately Alabama's was played out on the evening news nationally. That was what made MLK's work so effective. Most people didn't care when the mistreatment was out of sight, out of mind, but when they say black kids being mowed down by fire hoses on the evening news, it rallied support to MLK's fight. It's a stain on Alabama's past, as well as this country's. Showingnindifferencento it just because you weren't alive to witness it is baffling to me, especially in a state that is so prideful of its Civil War ancestors.

I'm not prideful of our Civil War ancestors either.

Being real, His questions are bigoted and come from a place of extreme ignorance

Have we forgotten George Wallace refusal to integrate or the Birningham church bombing?

What is so "interesting" about it, except that I am getting similar responses there as here?
Honestly, I am pretty surprised by how much hostility some people have to talking about what happened in the South back then in regard to Race. We talk about other things from the past quite a bit and are interested - but not that. Not too many white people anyway. I am interested in it. Fascinating time.

The hostility you perceive is a reaction to the ignorant and bigoted foundation of your line of questioning.
I don't know if you're a troll or a racist or what. I think you're just misguided and ignorant. But let me see if I can illustrate for you, since it's so hard for you to understand.

Why did black people in the past act way?
Why was it so hard for them to listen?
