Where do you live? Because I can't think of a single white girl i know who would date a black guy...it's pretty much socially rejected in the deep south. The shaming and name calling and social shunning a girl would receive here for dating a black guy would probably cause suicide, not to mention her family disowning her.

Tbird's wife, Aggiebelle, is from South Carolina. That is definitely deep South. And her family is fine with it, as Tbird pointed out in an earlier post. Not everyone in the deep South has issues with it and resort to shaming. Sure, it exists. No doubting that, but it isn't fair to paint the entire deep South with a broad brush in that manner.

I personally have found it to be opposite in some cases. A friend of mine worked for a company who brought in a new CEO from up north, and on the first day he had a meeting saying he knows how things are down here and what people say, but that he didn't want to hear any racial slurs at work. Within 2 months of living here and interacting with many local black people, that CEO was using the N word on a regular basis.

It all comes down to socioeconomic status really...if a person lives where there are a lot of poor blacks and high crime, naturally they will stereotype negatively. If a person lives in a diverse middle class neighborhood where the blacks are just like they are, they won't have negative attitudes toward that race.

I tend to agree with this.

Socioeconomic status tends to be a better predictor of behavior than melanin content.

Still gotta give individuals a chance based on their own merit though. Stereotypes are a manifestation of laziness imo.

I consider deep south to be Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia.

And yes, I do live in a fricked up place. Grew up in an isolated environment...all white private school, segregated town, etc. 70% black and all through HS never personally knew 1 black person and were just taught racist thoughts by my peers, coaches, etc growing up. Not gonna lie, going into freshman year in college I was racist as frick because I never heard anything different.

Getting into the real world changed my viewpoint though, I'm thankful for that.

FIFY. You can walk down any given street in Atlanta and see married interracial couples.

Tbird is married to a white gal from South Carolina and I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. I would guarantee that their marriage is better than at least 70% of white/white marriages.

I don't judge people based on the color of their skin...I judge them by their character. If my daughter had married a black fella instead of the cheating pos white dude she did marry and the black guy treated her well, I'd be fully in support of it. I give zero shits about the color of the person someone marries as long as they are happy together. That is all that counts.

if you logically sit down and think about it,, most parents should encourage interracial dating.

Think about it. I'm a pretty normal black guy. I'm handsome (so i've been told) but i'm not a supermodel or anything. I'm short (5'8). I date in and out of my race. The black women I date, are smoke shows. I've dated a black swimsuit model. Thought about marrying her, but that wasn't going to work. I've dated some absolute knockouts inside my race. Because I have my shite together. I've dated some pretty good looking white women but nothing honestly in comparison to the level of black women I've dated, there just aren't a lot of black women in my circlces that I date.

I'm 32 years old, I run a pretty successful business, I have no kids, no ex wife, no debt, my house is paid off. I'm a fricking catch lol. And the women that I 'm able to pull are cute / above avg white women, nothing wrong with that, just saying i'm not out pulling super models or anything.

These are girls that your avg frat white guy rolling out of bed making 50k as an accountant somewhere can get all day long. But for me to get on the level where a girl of this calibur is willing to over look the color of my skin to give me a try, I have to be on all levels on my game. My finances have to be in order, my style has to be in order, my future has to be in order, for me to even get the fricking time of day with a woman outside my race who is about some real shite.

The woman I do marry won't work. I make enough money. Our kids will go to private schools, education will be paid for. They will grow up in a loving environment money, while i'm not loaded, won't be an issue.

So if you want your daughter to get ahead, go black lol!

It's really sad that this is the way it is. It shouldn't be necessary to have to overlook a person's skin color. It should never really be entered into the equation. I would be hesitant to get involved with anybody that based their willingness to get to know me simply off of such superficial factors. If my daughter ever wises up to the douche factor of her husband, I'll set you two up.

As a father to a daughter that's just a few years away from dating , my thoughts on the subject is: I'd much rather her bring home a black boy than a white girl.

I feel bad for your daughter. You should be happy for her, as long as she's happy, no matter who she chooses to be with.

You know what? I've never been a supporter of gay marriage, but I can't disagree with this.

I think along with generational, to a degree its geographical. And not in the sense of North/South. Growing up, my parents never used the term n...r. My friends did, and it was a descriptor as much as that white person or that black person. We had no interaction with blacks where I grew up and didn't go to school with a person of another race until 7th grade. Looking back, today, many would equate racism to the words used, but it was mainly ignorance and not having experience around people that were different.

Fortunately, I'm not a child anymore and my line of work being a service oriented one, has brought me into contact with a large diversity of folks, race and religion wise and I've learned and am not sheltered like I once was.

My question is (on a macro level) do you think that racism gets a little less with each generation, or is it still alive and well like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and the Selma director say?

Yes it's still alive...ALL races...black, white, hispanic, asian, arab, native, etc...

I don't get too worked up over it..we'll never all get along. People need to give up hope. If ethnic groups of the same color in Europe, Africa, Asia, South America, Mid East don't get along because of where their ancestors are from or religion...why do people think Americans will get along. People in other countries hate each other and they are the same damn color, race.

I have 3 gay females in my family...all on their father side which are my uncles and mom/uncles cousin's daughter. Yea I don't think you choose to be gay...shite in the genes/DNA. These girls didn't grow up togehter...grew up in different towns but they turned out gay....Oh and they are the boyish gay...not the lipstick pretty lesbos. They have long hair..but don't like makeup, dress more boyish.

Now my damn daughter is tomboyish. She loves video games, likes girl basketball players...one day she said she's a tomboy. I'm like wtf. She thinks it's cool.

She doesn't want, nor need your pity. Plus, the odds of her thinking she's gay is infinitesimal. She lives in a home with a mother and a father who are happily married where she isn't subjected to any kind of abuse.

Yeah, that's not how it works. Several gay friends of mine came from the same kind of families. One is even from a home where the father is a pastor, mother a mayor, and his other three siblings are completely straight. His parents are two of the most loving people ever.
