As disturbing as child abuse is, some of you are just as disturbing in your brand of "justice".

I'm all for chemical/mechanical castration in most situations though, specifically repeat offenders.

If one believes in capital punishment (I vacillate), child sexual abuse has to at least be considered for capital punishment in my estimation.

That actually doesn't help -- I've heard that they will offend even when castrated.

Offenders should at least be removed from society because there is no known effective treatment for their condition. Some states send pedophiles directly from prison to mental institutions after their sentences are completed.

Sure, I agree with that, there are instances where it should be considered. It just seems every thread like this is a "kill him" thread. If it were a women in the pic, the tone would be a lot different.

This really is the exclusive route to be taken.

Studies have shown chemical castration combined with anti-depressants have a 3% repeat rate compared to over 40% untreated. Of course this was a German study, I'd have to find it. That's not rock solid, but it's a start.

What's the rate of sending them to a mental asylum for reoffense?

No it does help, it's just not 100% effective, but the failure rate is much lower. It's an interesting topic to debate. I am pretty Libertarian in my political views, but even I support more mental health access.

I guess it would be zero, given they have no access to children. It's a problem that isn't going to go away through a jail cell. Hopefully medical intervention will all but eliminate it in the future.

Me, too. I think mental illness is the biggest problem we're facing in the 21st century. Because humans are not evolving in a natural way, defects are increasing in the population. They're not being weeded out by "survival of the fittest."

As a Libertarian, I think it's government's most important function to protect citizens. Mental illness certainly poses a severe risk to the population in general.

I agree, and good point. This fast paced digital world overwhelms the senses. I read something a few months back along the lines of "we make more decisions in a day than our ancestors made in a month".

I thought about this the other day -- the weakest being able to reap the benefits of the strongest without having to contribute much of anything at all.

That's not a Socialism type of deal, but you just look at these pathetically lazy people in their expensive cars and you know, just know, that they wouldn't be able to survive outside of the LEGO model of society. If it all stopped working tomorrow, they'd be worthless.
