Fried Chicken is kind of like fried catfish: they're both so universal across the South that it's kind of wrong for one state to lay claim to it (whereas at least BBQ has enough different variations that you can actually splice it up based on region)

ArKansas invented commercial catfish farming, but Mississippi soon emerged as the largest producer.

If picking a dessert for GA, I'd go with pecan pie over peach cobbler.

Cali is the worst. Their version of BBQ is to boil the ribs and then slather them with BBQ sauce.

its probably better than the souths mexican food

Upvote for adopting the name of one of literature's greatest characters. Ol' Sancho is the model for every wisecracking foil that's ever been.

Where would we be without that acerbic counterweight? Life would be pretty bland. Can always count on Sancho to lace in a dose of droll hilarity.

I enjoy brisket but just can't bring myself to like it more than pork. IMO it isn't BBQ if it isn't pork.

Brisket is meh for me.

Last thing my dad said after helping me move in here in Dallas was "Son, I love you. But brisket isn't barbecue."

Man makes the best pulled pork I've ever had in my life.

6. Louisiana - gumbo
7. Florida - key lime pie

I'm not arguing the pick of gumbo, but my favorite dish is BBQ Shrimp.
I would also have key lime pie much higher. Fresh picked key limes, heaven on Earth.

Farms yes, but wild caught I'd say OK gives MS a run for their money.

I doubt it. MS has too many rivers, creeks and oxbow lakes for that to hold true. MS also has saltwater catfish.

The fact that they ascribe fried catfish to Arkansas just kind of shows how mundane the food innovation must be up there

I'm the same way about chicken & waffles. Give me real mashed potatoes and gravy with a biscuit any day over waffles with my chicken.

I do know my grandmother was frying green tomatoes before Jessica Tandy performed in her first Broadway play.

From the article:
quote:

Yeah, yeah, Louisiana also has the po' boy and the beignet, but really, those are New Orleans foods, and New Orleans already thinks more than highly enough of itself. Besides, neither of those is as tasty as Creole gumbo, which, factually, is the sole credible argument for not sinking that state into the Gulf of Mexico.

Just a straight up verbal beat down of Louisiana.
