I could get with this, though I think government should be out of the marriage business entirely.
So no tax breaks, no notifying next of kin, no hospital visits, etc?

Can be covered by a simple legal document.

Been like this forever.
The Bible's books were decided by many councils and committees. Hell the Protestant scum and Catholics have different books in their bibles.

quote:Christians didn't get the idea from Jesus, but (Bible-believing) Christians believe the idea originated with God and that the intent was for one man and one woman to be joined together as a living picture of God's relationship to His people. With that said, Christian's don't believe that they can define it; they believe God has already defined it.
"Christians didn't invent marriage. Why do they think they can define it."
Whether the government should be in the the middle of it is another question entirely.

What about taxes?

Well, the Christian god set a lot of rules that Christians don't follow. Pick and choose, I guess..

What about em? If a couple in civil union wants the tax advantages they can incorporate.

I'm one one to ask about that. If single taxpayers can't get a tax break, why should married people?

Bruh I've been arguing the virtue of that for a couple of pages. It hasn't been the most popular point.

Another good point.

It is funny to see the shift in argument from those against gay marriage as they see the snowball rolling downhill towards legal gay marriage becoming a reality nationwide. Nobody seemed to have a problem with government's involvement in marriage for 80+ years so long as gays couldn't marry, but as soon as they start realizing gay marriage is about to become a reality, we need to get government out of marriage.

Some of the most random companies have awesome Twitter accounts. Chobani is pretty solid.

Point me to it, I can't sift through all of Sorantable's fatness to find Duke gold

All can easily be addressed by secondary documents.

Any post I've made from the first-third page. It was a back and forth with Alahunter. You don't need to read it all, I'll summarize:
By any social measure the institution of marriage is beneficial. Thus tax incentives are a cheap means of promoting this worthy institution. It's one of the few useful aspects of our current clusterfrick of a tax code.

Ok, and I agree with you.
But, Can a couple in a domestic partnership not incorporate and get the tax benefits? I'll hang up and listen

And this hasn't been popular? I loved coming from a stable home, and I like a government that promotes the family unit.
