Auburn is cool town during football season but it is a ghost town during the summer like any other college town.

spring time was hit or miss.

but I only went to Auburn for 2 years before transferring to South Alabama.

so...

I went to UAH and Huntsville is completely different than any other place I've been to in Alabama.

Albertville?

Any list that includes any location on Sand Mountain is automatically full of shite.

I have been all over the state and lived here all my life except for a couple of cruises in the Marines and working abroad and I am of the opinion that I would not live anywhere in the state outside of Baldwin county. We have better schools than most and 90% of the county is not a dump; quite the opposite in almost every other county. Plus, our tax dollars prop up almost every other school district in the state that can't pay their own way by re-distributing our property tax dollars to poorer counties.

You and I are just about in agreement except I'd leave Mobile out and probably add Madison. Tuscaloosa is getting so large that I'm pressing to include them. About 25-30 years ago, I'd have had them in the top 3.

Yeah, true to an extent. It is about impossible to make a decent living there consistently. Tourism, and real estate are the only two industries and those are seasonal or cyclical. I lived there working in the mortgage industry for a year or so a while back until the market crashed after Katrina. Summers are a hell of a lot of fun for a single person. Winters are completely dead and it is a ghost town. I still liked living there. The good thing about living there is it is cheap as well. Since there is no industry or jobs that pay well, no one has a lot of money and it is a cheap area in general.

Fairhope and Daphne are absolutely terrible for a single person BTW. Nothing at all to do and about zero attractive single people. Nice place to raise a family, but not much going on at all.

That is because of all of the transplants related to the space and missile defense industry. Huntsville is one of the top cities in Alabama. I would put the eastern shore and GS/OB on the list. Florence, Auburn, a couple of Bham suburbs and maybe Tuscaloosa. After that, not really anywhere in Bama I would personally want to live.

LOL @ Albertville. That place is full of Meth and Mexicans.

And for my $.02, North of Bham>>>South of Bham as far as towns in AL go.

You probably should have added the word "young" to that sentence. I'm in the Pensacola area, and many of our friends love that area, but we're an older crowd.

It's getting better.. Public housing is slowly getting pushed outside of the downtown area. I wish they could just have their own county. They drive the crime rate up. (not talking about solely AA)

That is very much what it is. If you look at the criteria they used, it's skewed to produce the whitest results

I assume you don't mean Birmingham suburbs, because the North suburbs are horrendous

Yep. I should clarify that Huntsville South of 565 and east of memorial parkway is nice, with a handful of other nice areas scattered about. Also, Huntsville and Madison are one metro area to me much like the Quad cities, OB/GS and Spanish Fort/Daphne/Fairhope.

Well, they are the majority, so it'd make sense to skew the criteria in their direction. What on the list isn't universally desirable?
