I watched for 5 mins in the first half.

The refs were terrible, and Mizzou didn't score a point so I changed it.

I'll wait until I hear they are better, and not scoring moral victories.

You really can't see the positive strides we have made thus far? That's the thing about having a team of youngsters. One minute they are playing great, the next you are scratching your head.

This is still a rebuilding year. Rome wasn't built in a day.

We went into half down by 1 and had a 3 point lead towards the end. Have some reasonable expectations for this team. If we keep this core together, they should be extremely solid next year or the year after.

Just need to hit the recruiting trails hard for some big men. Definitely headed in the right direction. No doubt about that.

Like we did against Xavier last year. Hung kinda close for a good chunk of the game and then fell apart.

Have they made progress? The first two games looked like it. Tonight? Not so much.

I'm not saying they played well. We definitely looked lost in the second half as we tried to beat the zone. Isabel shot okay, but that dude makes the worst decisions. Isabel and Wright kept trying to go East and West, rather than attacking. Those two really hindered us offensively. I would like to see Walton take it to the rack more often, because that's his bread and butter.

Hopefully, we improve each and every game.

It's not that I don't have any patience.

I just have a hard time watching CBB in general, much less when the team I'm interested in can't score.

I was more annoyed with the refs than the team though, in those 5 mins the pace of play was plodding, and refs were calling every little bump against Mizzou.

I hate college refs.

I agree with the NIT or bust next year. I think we will make a push for it this year. Definitely NIT 16-17. Tournament 17-18.

Yeah, I thought the officiating was dog shite. Lots of "bump" foul calls on Mizzou. Seemed extremely uneven to me, but I could be biased...

The instincts of the freshman class are really impressive. They may not have the physical talent that the sophomores have, but they just know how to ball.
Have to find a way to get Gant engaged. Some early touches on the mid post probably do that.
Offense got stagnant again the zone in the second half. Have to get paint touches and move the ball a little more.
The outcome was about as expected Xavier was a sweet 16 team last year, and only lost 2 guys.

If the freshmen stick around and can take a step forward, we could have an outside chance at a tournament bid next year. Agree though that anything less than the NIT next year is unacceptable.

Refs were bad but Xavier had some questionable calls too. Bottom line is they came out with more energy than us the 2nd half and we didn't respond well. Resulted in forced shots, turnovers and individual play.

I loved gant coming in but I'm done with him. Game is still too fast for him and he can't find a role. Him and puryear need to stop shooting threes

I agree. I like his 15-20 footer though. He will need it to keep the defense honest since he's undersized. I really like the way he plays though. Has a super soft touch around the basket.

It also hurts when Phillips isn't on the floor. We can't have him in foul trouble. Isabel is a frickin liability. Granted, he will make a few shots that he shouldn't.

Good news, we look SO much better then last year. Even the games we dont win will be entertaining.

That said, you will rarely here me complain about refs, but the refs made it impossible for mizzou to close in. Not saying we win with different refs, but we keep it in single digits the whole 2nd half.

Hopefully fans show up in KC.

Shows how much the team already relies on Phillips to lead them. He barely played because of foul trouble and Clark and Isabel are not great options at the point. They had more turnovers tonight than the first two games combined.

This was the first good team they played, and they're a legit good team with better players than Mizzou. I was encouraged overall, because unlike last year, I actually do think they'll be better by the end of the year. Right now the only guy who looks like he hasn't figured out what his job is Gant.

Finally, 3rd game in 5 days showed. Their jump shots were, for the most part, flat and short. Time to prep for KState....sure would be nice to get a shot at Carolina.

Game was definitely won at the free throw line.

Both teams were practically identical from the field/3pt:

Xavier: 24-56
Mizzou: 23-55

Both teams made 6 3-pointers

FTs:

Xavier: 24-29
Mizzou: 14-18

When Phillips is running the offense, things look better. He and Puryear really seem to have a connection.

This team will have to hit 3's this year to avoid zones (which we lack muscle to beat) and because we're likely going to get out-rebounded consistently.

Babysteppin' on to the bus...

1) Gant looks BAD

2) Isabell plays to much ISO.

3) Puryear and Gant take too many 3's

4) TP is your ideal true PG. It's a bonus hes shooting 60% from downtown.

It doesn't seem like the team needs Gant to be a major scorer, that said the guards need to get him touches when he posts up. They missed him on several post ups.
He also probably needs to focus on being a terror on defense getting steals, blocks, & deflections. Other than that just rebound both offensive and defensive.

I agree, I'd settle with a defensive Gant who puts up 6 & 6 a game.
