He didn't put it quite right in my estimation.

It is easy to be a fan of a good team, even with a few down years.

But Post-1985 Royals fans (myself included) have been through a sports fan hell.

I only wonder how well cardinals fans would respond in the same situation.

Look the only reason I care about the Royals as much as I do is because of a mutual bond(mizzou/the state of missouri). As a cards fan in the last 2 years we've had to deal with not one but two "rivals" who didn't have any fans just 3 years ago but everyone speaks as if they've always been a die-hard. The Rams have been shite for 10 years and I still make it to half the games, and I bash anyone who I hear talk bad about them but claim they loved the SB we won and would be a fan again if they started winning.

All im saying is far too many Royal fans (again not all) have left a bad taste on behalf of the fan base. This will not be a rivalry until the Royals have at least 2 or 3 more successful seasons.

If the Royals played in any other state, they would mean as much to the Cards as lets say seattle.

Then don't read or comment. Pretty easy.

The Cards of the '90's were terrible. The ownership group ran them into the ground before selling to the DeWitt Group.

You guys haven't experienced anything remotely close. Hence the post season appearances.

And for the record they did lose their owner in 1989, and his son damn near destroyed everything he built. Whitey quit that same year.

Damn near is not the same as was destroyed. There was very little to no money being spent on this organization.

We had Whitey for four years. I believe he still holds the all time Royals record for wins as a manager. Tough loss. But I don't think there was a time where St.Louis was wondering if thier team would actually be there next year. KC did. All it would have taken was a person with a shite load of money and they would have been gone.

That would probably go the other way also. It only makes sense.

Bad taste from what? Being excited about a team thats been dormant for 30 yrs. that just went to a WS when everyone was saying they wouldn't make it? I don't get it really. What the hell could possibly chap a cards fans arse about team that they describe as well bellow their standard of baseball? Sounds like some butt hurt to me. Don't like seeing another fanbase be excited about thier team for some reason. I never got it really. This town has been starving for a real baseball team for years. A whole generation had no idea what post season was growing up, now they do, by a shirt or cap and get behind their team and they are labeled sub par fans for backing their home team?

A few examples why, and because this happened at a mizzou game I'll tell the story.

It was a toward the end of the football season and I think the cards had just been sent home. While tailgating a few older royals fans were walking around and noticed my friends cards hat. They stopped to talk to us. Actually they stopped to talk shite about how it feels to sit at home and watch the playoffs blah blah blah. We laughed because we thought they were kidding. It didn't stop and it started to get heated, cops came told them to leave. They literately were looking for STL fans to talk serious not kidding shite too. Probably a few bad apples but I have now seen a few KC pals act this way. This is the reason I HATE the Reds.

Sure you guys are excited, I would be too. But a lot of Royal fans dont know how to control that excitement.

I love following the Royals. This thread is for fun. A chance to have some fun and take some shots at each other and laugh a little. I dont think anyone is being overly serious in this thread. Hell, we have a unique situation on this Mizzou board in that KC/STL types get long and respect each other compared to TB or PM.

Maybe you should stop being so insufferable and lighten up a bit. You appear to be wound up tight sometimes.

That's pretty bad. Did you consider maybe they had a bad experience with a Cards fan prior to your interaction?

I'll tell you an experience today. Went to the local sports shop to get rain gear for this weekend. The one we went to that had the ponchos was ran by a nice middle aged lady. They have a large variety of team jerseys etc. We checked.out and at the end before leaving she mentioned she'll be glad when this series is done this weekend. I curiously asked her why. She said in simple terms, "because these Cardinals fans" shaking her head. By the expression on her face I assumed she had to put up with some crap.

I have friends who are cards fans. Great guys until you bring up baseball. Then it all goes south.

Both fan bases have thier out of hand jerks. When I say stuff in here, it's just for fun. I actually like and am a bit envious of the Cards oranization with the history and long tradition. They are second to only the Spanky's when it comes to championship wins, and the Lou will pass them some day. Hell I just bought a Stan "The Man" Musial autograph baseball to set beside my Albert Pujols autograph ball.

All in good fun. I'm sure there will be more jabs and cheap shots before this is over.

That is correct, because the new ownership group fixed the problem.

All, I'm saying is that in the 90's the franchises were headed down similar paths. One righted the ship, one didn't.

Like I said before, I'm glad the Royals are good. No fanbase should have to suffer like that, but directing your frustrations about it towards the Cardinals success is petty.

I suspect that this series means a lot more to KC, than it does to STL.

?????? What are you talking about. We're having fun poking and jabbing. No frustration here.

That must be why the cards fans outnumber the royals fans in this thread, started by a cards fan. Ok

Lol.

Here's to a good series.

I wish Martinez was going against Ventura Saturday. That would be an awesome matchup.

Maybe the stars will align in STL.

Absolutely.

I just can't help but have this gut feeling, we are watching potential AL and NL champions this weekend. Other than the Astros and Narionals, these are the two best teams in baseball right now.

The one characteristic both teams have is the games not over until the last out and no lead is safe.

Lynns gonna get really lit up around the 5th inning. KC has already started zeroing him in. He better change something up and soon.

Lynn isnt right. I dont know if he has some physical nagging thing going on but its pretty clear his motion isnt right. Hope its not serious, we cant afford to be down another starter at this point.
