I've lived in Missouri most of my life, with a short stint in Kentucky. I'm usually very proud to be from Missouri - except when some stupid thing gets us in the news.

I was born in Sikeston, grew up in Cape Girardeau, and have lived in St. Louis and Columbia. It's all Missouri to me. Are there some St. Louis people who think the rest of the state is the boonies? Sure. But there are also plenty of people from the boonies that think people in St. Louis are city snobs. There are idiots all over, I just choose not to surround myself with them.

Yeah, I was kidding. I was born in Columbia(probably the result of a night celebrating the win over Alabama in '68 ). Lived in Columbia, St. Louis and several years in Tennessee. Have a lot of family from Annapolis, south of Ironton. Population of about 300 and according to my grandma, yes we are related to every single person in the town. So yeah, I know there's a lot more to the state than St. Louis and proud of what each segment of the state has to offer, including Kansas City. Never did understand the whole STL vs. KC thing.

This is what I mean by flat liner and politician. You never really take a stance, you just make agreeable middle of the road comments. As a whole, which means the majority, which means the overriding atmosphere of St. Louis is to not embrace the state, to not consider themselves Missourians. Disagree or make it sound different, but that's just how it is. Not sure why this notion caused such an uproar.

Me either. Very different cities, but both very cool in their own ways. I'm partial to St. Louis since I lived there and know more about it, but KC is very nice.

And I know what you mean about little towns where you're related to everybody. The little wide spot in the road in Arkansas where my mom is from is like that for me. A bunch of big farm families that have intermarried over the years, and it seems like every time I go for a visit I learn about a new cousin. I decided very young that I shouldn't ever date there, just to be on the safe side.

And you're back to attacking me again? Why does it bother you so much that I like for people to get along, and that I can see both sides of an issue?

And I disagree with your point based on the large number of friends and family members I have in St. Louis.

My friend, I'm not referring to you. I'm referring to all of us collectively, myself included. I was just thinking we probably had a thread similar to this about the time many of our brothers were banished, and I think I participated in those threads as well. Don't take it so personal. It's really not meant that way.

Sounds just the same. That's how I learned about second cousins and second cousins twice removed. Great folks and still love getting back down there. Have actually thought about moving there but not sure I can go without a Taco Bell or White Castles.

Not many states have two cities that have major league teams, think that fuels it some.

Think they're also always been a little brother complex from KC.

Just glad I got a firm stance from you. (Is that how I do it? Put cheers at the end of everything? Maybe I'll be more liked if I cheers more).

I'm not sure I could live in a dry county!

I've never been able to eat White Castle. I think that's a guy thing. I can't even stand the smell of them, and I love burgers!

Good point. For both baseball and football.

Are you this argumentative in real life, or do we just get special treatment because you can be anonymous here?

And I don't think it's that you're disliked, as much as you're really annoying when you pick fights with other Mizzou posters. Pick on the Arkys, or the Aggies, or the Aubies. There aren't enough of us to have this much dissent in our ranks.

Anonymity has nothing to do with it, don't paint me as a coward (See, I did the cheers thing, it adds so much niceness to otherwise borderline statement). I'm this opinionated in real life, yes. But, I do seem to get much more love in real life than I do on here. Flipping the table, maybe bc the haters are anonymous.

I happen to like his intuitive, critical, and creative thinking. Something that seems to be dying rapidly in our society, as seen by 99% of posters here.

Meh, you are far too black and white bud.

The truth is that many things are, in fact, "middle of the road" by their very nature.

The irony is that you are an extremist while poking at someone for being "middle of the road"

I know this, understand it, and get it.

People can take a stance and be extreme, but also be middle of the road and see both sides on other issues. On here I don't really speak up on things that I'm middle of the road about, seems like the stronger opinions come out more.

I don't see the point in making middle of the road comments on things like the STL-Missouri issue. What she said is correct (but it's a given). There are people in STL that are uppity and think they're too good to be Missourians, and many that have great pride for their state.. and vice versa about people in the country hating on or loving STL. I just think that as a collective whole the city of St. Louis does not identify with Missouri very well, the majority don't see themselves as Missourians. I think at a point you have to assess whether something is one thing or another, it's not necessarily extremism.

So, unless I have something controversial or extremist to say, I should just stay quiet? Sorry. I don't do that so well.
