I get what you are saying with this and agree with some of it but drawing the ATL to Georgia reference is kinda off. Atlanta is so much different than the rest of the state and really doesn't claim the Georgia part. Most people in the city think of the rest of the country as being country and do not take as much pride in the Georgia as the ATL. People in GA outside of ATL take a tremendous amount of pride in the state. SO in this instance I think it is actually more like what you are saying about STL or CHI.
Okay, I believe you. You're the one with boots on the ground. Maybe it's just an urban thing to not want to associate with the state as a whole. Should have played it safe and used Dallas and Texas as an example.

It's a weird dynamic. When I lived in the SEA area everyone on the west side of the Cascades were from "Seattle" and acted like eastern washington was a completely different state.
Hell, its even within St Louis metro. People from St Chuck are not from "St Louis" folks from ST Louis county make sure folks know they ARE NOT from the City.
Lest we forget the "Where did you go to H.S." nonsense.
Its definitely weird.

Good points all around.
Maybe Texas is the last stop for state pride trumping city affiliation.

Naw mogray, I'm thankful that I found out that I'm an ignorant, stuck up, racist douchebag that has my kid playing soccer and going to DeSmet and live in a bubble with no connection to the State. I have taken heed of your words and started a petition to secede from the State of Missouri and have St. Louis become a State unto itself. And no, you still don't get the Cardinals. We're taking them with us.

Yea, dont know. I am proud to be a Missourian..but, Kills might be trollin a bit there is some truth to what he is saying about many here in St Louis. The biggest problem is that many here are oblivious to that parochial mentality until they leave and live somewhere else. It was very clear to me once a I left St Louis.

Not to flame or anything cuz I know the whole "STL vs KC" issue gets touchy, but this has always been my perception as well. STL is totally different from any other part of the state. Atmosphere, attitude, allegiances, culture, etc.

Naw, you're just an over cautious dad that makes your kids where helmets on flat terrain. You're not a douche, or stuck up, you're a guy doin what he thinks he should be doin'. You're probably a really pleasant fellow and great family man. (I won't go on a rant about how your type is crumbling the future of Man and contributing greatly to the gradual gayification of men everywhere. That was rude. I'm sorry. I have turrets. You're not a bad guy, I'm JK). And btw, those weren't my words about the bubble and being stuck up... but they might as well have been.
You can joke, but really, as a collective whole St. Louisans don't want to be Missourians. Sounds like it's not much different in other states.

Count me in that group. I am completely oblivious to it. I can honestly say I have never given any thought to whether I'm a St. Louisan or a Missourian. Quite honestly, I'm not even smart enough to know what any of it means. I'm just some guy in Missouri who happens to live in St. Louis.

Those types are everywhere, not just St. Louis. I got tossed out of the ballpark the other night because they called a game due to rain and I told them much the same thing (think I used the word pussification instead of gayification). What the hell is a little mud going to hurt anyone?
Oh, and my kid don't wear no helmets.

ITs not everyone reedus. Dont take offense. You know the type though. Like I said earlier to MOGray its even segmented within the metro with where you went to H.S. carrying a stigma 20+ years after graduating.
Its not nearly as bad as some with ruffled feathers in other parts of MO say but outside the hyperbole there is some underlying truth.

Oh, I'm not taking offense kilo. I'm just having fun with it.
I understand there's some truth to what you say. It's probably why I don't like it when people do ask where I went to high school. I'm afraid when I tell them, they will have a pre-conceived notion that I'm an ignorant, racist stuck up douchebag.

Yea, kills is just poking in the ribs.
Its always funny watching a St Louisan ask someone that is not native or grew up in ST Louis "Where did you go to H.S." the looks and responses are usually funny a hell.

Hold on a sec...so you're admitting there's some truth to what I posted earlier if you read between my word vomit?

Not the state, but as it relates to Mizzou, when I was getting out of H.S., if there was any ill informed opinions about the school, it had more to do with it being a "party" school. All colleges are a "party" school but what that tag line fails to recognize is that it is also a quality learning institution as well. I don't know anyone that didn't want to go to Mizzou or anyone whose parents didn't want them to go to Mizzou because it was a bunch of backwooded hoosiers. It was because their impression was they'd drink themselves right out of college, as if that doesn't happen at every university.

Kills, there are certainly people like that. But they're everywhere, not just St. Louis. My problem comes when people want to start painting with a wide brush. I'd be stupid to say there aren't ignorant people in St. Louis. I'd be stupid to say there aren't racists in St. Louis. I'd be stupid to say there aren't douchebags in St. Louis. Do I know a single person in St. Louis that doesn't also consider themselves a Missourian? Not one.

And by the way, STLosers...it's pronounced corn, not carn. Fork not fark. Highway forty four, not farty four. I mean WTF? You mispronounce the first four but pronounce e last four correctly?!!!
Wash not warsh (if you're gonna sound like an idiot, at least say worsh). Born not barn. Morning not marning. Door not dar..........

The funny part is that there are sections of Missouri that regionally identify before the State as well. The Ozarks come to mind as does areas around K.C.

Have to admit, this "stigma" is so exaggerated.
You don't find many who talk like that anymore.
