Yep that is how I was too. I hope we at least know who the next guys is.

So if conventional wisdom is that Marshall is holding out for a blue blood program, how many of those will open up in the near future. Mind you, Marshall himself is already 51.

UCLA (if they're still considered that) - Alford(49) isn't going anywhere soon.
Kentucky - Calipari(55) isn't leaving unless for NBA.
UNC - Williams(63) is getting up there.
Duke - Coach K(67) is up there too.

After that, I don't know if I consider them blue bloods, but:

UConn - Ollie(41) is there for a long time.
UF - Donovan(48) is younger than Marshall.
Louisville - Pitino(61) is starting to get up there.
Syracuse - Boheim(69) is already up there.
Indiana - Crean(48) is young and most IU fans seem happy.
Michigan State - Izzo(59) isn't leaving for a while.
Michigan - Beilin (61) still has a number of years ahead of him.
Ohio State - Matta(46) is younger than Marshall as long as he produces.
kU - Self(51).

So it would seem the only opportunities he is waiting for are limited to UNC, Duke and Syracuse if you ask me. Something tells me UNC will first look for someone within that Dean Smith coaching tree and I don't think those limbs reach to Marshall. There are plenty of Dean Smith descendants in the NBA and college basketball.

I think the same is true of Duke. Like UNC, I think Duke thinks too much of themselves to go outside of their "blue blood" line. I think a better match is an Amaker from Harvard, or Brey from Notre Dame or Dawkins at Stanford...not a school from the midwest. Not to mention those alrady at Duke.

Syracuse? Boheim is the oldest. Not sure who all falls under his tree, but with so many years under his belt, surely there are a lot.

Maybe those schools don't stay within their blood lines, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they do. Especially if they feel 2 coaches aren't separated by much. So not sure what job Marshall would be waiting for. Syracuse would seem most likely.

If he's really holding out for a blue blood, I would think Indiana is the most likely. Crean will be under some pressure next year.

So, continuing to do a sales job on myself, pulled up on college basketball reference and sorted by wins trying to figure out what is considered a blue blood and might have a coaching job open up. Not all are major schools/conferences. There are a handful of the Penn's and Western Kentucky's of the world. Mizzou is 34 all time.

Beyond those talked about above, the only other team that made me go hmmmm is the Texas job. Hardly consider them a blue blood either, but they are above Mizzou in wins. Barnes is rumored to be on the hot seat from time to time.

With a new AD, I'd guess Barnes has two years to do something. Anything. Though they were kinda in the hunt for the conference title this year I think.

Burwell is a joke.

Burwell is such a negative Nancy. I'm sure Alden wasn't happy at all after finding out about the Miami deal. Would hope he was upset, especially if Haith was less than forthcoming. Probably set a bad tone early between coach and AD. But what could be done at that point unless and until the NCAA finished their investigation. Turn around and fire a coach right after hiring him without any results in yet from the investigation?

I also suspect that Haith thought he could leverage Alden for another raise/extension and instead of being told ok, he probably got the same speech that GP got a year ago. Given the lack of history at Mizzou and the fear that he wouldn't be successful next year led to him bolting. Call it not trusting Alden or call it Haith giving Alden plenty of reasons to say your job isn't secure, I think Haith brought that upon himself.
