Fuente made a case this season and a really strong case today.

I'm still all about Fuente...
but I admit it makes me feel a little guilty bc Elliot is trying so hard and the guys really love him.
But..I want WINS, baby. Spurrier created this monster...before him we would've been just fine with Elliot and would've had very little, if any, expectations. That attitude has done a complete 180.
Hope we were in contact with Fuente before his win over Ole Miss yesterday just to get a jump on things. You know his phone is ringing off the hook today. Hopefully we've already gotten to him and made the case for coming to Carolina and the SEC.

What is a realistic salary we would offer to Fuente? Would we go $3-4 million?

He's making $1.4 mill @ Memphis (Thanks for that info, CIYE) so I wouldn't be opposed to tripling that.

The insiders on 247 say we could go as high as 6 million and year and that money won't be an issue
eta- that would be for someone like Dantonio or Gary Patterson though. Herman, Smart and Fuente would probably get 3-4

That's how WVU ended up with Bill Stewart.

He wasn't great, but wasn't awful, he went 28-12 there.
I hope we don't let emotion make this decision for us though.

Probably just over $3M if he's our guy.
IMO:
Kirby won't leave Bama except for a SEC HC job.
Herman will get picked up by a P5 team this season.
Fuente will get picked up by a P5 team this season.
If SoCal goes after Kelly, some current other NFL guy or someone from the West Coast, we won't be mixing it up with them. We both may go after Herman, but Herman won't be in the top 3 on their search board.
Maryland paid $2M for Edsall.
Virginia paid $3.1M for London
Purdue paid $2.1M for Hazzel
Illinois paid $1M for Cubit.
Miami paid $A2.5M for Golden
Besides SoCal, we aren't going up against any other college teams who could outbid us (except if utk or uga or texas get involved in the coach search.) Even then though, utk is financially strapped for cash, Butch's buyout is big. Also, uga won't ever fire Richt, they don't have the AD with the stones to do that.
We are in a really good position to get 1 of the several legit candidates we are looking at. I would discourage anyone from getting too focused on getting 1 specific guy right now. There are still a lot of games for these guys to prove themselves and things could happen b/w now and then that makes the "Pick of The Week,' this week look like dog shite 6 weeks form now.
We are going to get someone great, we're going to get one of our top choices, just let it play out.

While i see what you are saying, we need to get to the nitty gritty on some of these guys due to having multiple P5 jobs open. While we may be #2 on the list in terms of jobs on the market now, that isnt gonna say it will remain that way at end of season. Richt IMO is in serious danger of losing his job after these past 3 weeks.
Posted on 10/19/15 at 5:36 am to mikeboss550
Richt's seat is as cool as the other side of the pillow. He'll leave on his own terms. To say otherwise is just ignorant of the situation.

im just going off of what ive heard from some UGA fans i know and some of the talking heads.

The more I read into the situation, the more it becomes apparent that Herman is deeply invested in transforming the culture around Houston and turning them into a powerhouse.
I think ultimately we could get him interested in becoming our coach if the price was right, but the timing is just off. I think he wants to stay there for more than just one season.
All signs are pointing to Fuente being the right guy IMO.

Here is some great information about our financial capabilities and responsibilities for the football coaching staff.
HC - Spurrier $4M
(All these guys below have contract that expire in January 2016)
DL - Deke Adams: $320,000
LB - Kirk Botkin: $320,000
QC but paid like DB- Grady Brown: $270,000
OL Interim HC- Shawn Elliott: $450,000
QB - G.A. Mangus: $320,000
Spec Team - Joe Robinson: $375,000
RB - Everette Sands: $270,000
WR/Rec Coordinator (in name only)- Steve Spurrier Jr.: $400,000
=$2.725M (this money frees up this January.)
(These 2 guys have contracts that expire in January 2017.)
DC - John Hoke - $750K
DC-ish - Whammy Ward - $750K
= $1.5M in 2016 salary
They are due this money unless they are fired with cause, but I think that having a shite defense is cause enough to fire them, I hope their contract has a performance based evaluation clause.
That means this year we were on the hook for $8.225M total with HC, Asst Coaches and Grady Brown.)
We didn't actualize $2M in (lost) revenue from the LSU game.
We are saving about $2M from Spurrier resigning, so that's about a wash.
We are going to make more money from the SECN deal this year than projected, but we won't know how much until next quarter.
However, just going off of last year's numbers, and assuming that we can fire Whammy and Hoke with cause. We'll have about $8.225M for the new staff and at worst $6.725M (if we are held to the DC's contracts and just gong off of what we budgeted last year.) Although, Ray could say 'frick it, I'm the boss, I'll spend whatever it takes,' at any moment,' and we could end up spending even more than what we spent this year.
The point of all this is, we should have a lot of money to spend on a great HC and Top Tier Asst Coaching staff next season (especially if we can fire the DC's WITH CAUSE.)

They never have a clue about the UGA situation. He's here to stay for better or worse as long as money continues to poor into the university.

I think he is doing okay at Memphis. I think that if he coached in the SEC, he would do well.

to be honest a new exciting hire will boost recruiting anyways, then you look at how well he has developed his talent he does have. Paxton Lynch was a 2 star qb coming out of high school and only had 2 offers FAU and Memphis. As long as he can develop the talent then i dont care with classes like ours now.
Posted on 10/19/15 at 5:46 pm to mikeboss550
He'll need a top flight dc to bring on board with the fast style O he runs.

Memphis has 4 starters that our walk ons (I think so do we) difference is they have a team/coach that can beat ole miss and all their 4*'s & 5*'s.
Fuente develops players like crazy. If he got a hold of some of the 4*'s and 3*'s on our roster, he would make many of them into early round draft picks. Once people start seeing that, then the high rated talent will start rolling in (that is if he doesn't already hire a team of stud recruiters year 1.)

Simple question on the Board's opinion on Fuente.
Could Fuente turn SC into a 10+ win team year 1, or will it take 3 years, like at Memphis?
SC has vastly superior recruiting/players compared to Memphis's recruiting (so does Ole Miss) but Fuente seems to get the most out of everybody on his team. Fuente had horrible talent on that Memphis team when he took over a losing program, in 3 years he made them a 10 win team b/c he was able to get some players in to help AND they learned his system. If he started off with higher quality players year 1, could we expect a more immediate return on investment in him?
