OM having a bear for a mascot is not "stupid" since a lot of cfb programs have a mascot that is different from the name of the team. Examples:

Alabama: Crimson Tide/Elephant
Navy: Midshipmen/goat
UNC: Tar Heels/ram
Tenn: Volunteers/dog
Standford:Cardinal/tree
Army: Black Knights/mule
AU: Tigers/eagle

OM is gambling that if they get rid of all the overt Confederate imagery (Col Reb, the flag, etc.) the PC police will allow them to keep their name. We'll see if that works.

The solution to Ole Miss's mascot problem is easy:

1) Reinstate Colonel Reb.
2) Hire James Meredith to wear the costume.

yea frick the PC police! bring back Col Reb and let fans bring rebel flags in the stadium again.

Funny how since Ole Miss is toning down the old south shite that they actually have a decent football team now and more AA are willing to commit to Ole Miss.

Do you really think their recruiting suffered due to the Old South stuff? Just look at the great talent they had in the early 2000s when they were competing in the West every year. Ole Miss has always recruited well even if that talent didn't always pan out on the field.

I don't think any institution should be "forced" to give up its traditions, especially if those traditions do not actively discriminate against people. However, if they had to change the mascot, I really wish they could have gotten Admiral Akbar. That simply would have been too funny, creative, unique, and appropriate.

She is beautiful. I like to hear all the stories of how she outranks everyone, and if she barks, class is dismissed.
I really like all the ones that have live mascots.
I love going to see Mike at LSU, and UGA will always be special for going after the Auburn player, lol. Not a big fan of Smoky or bully but I do like them better than the cartoon character ones. I think Big AL is cute for the kids, but I wish we could have a live mascot, but lets face it, elephants are not very pretty. If I had to vote it would be close between A&M,LSU and GA.

If I was running Public Relations over there, I'd choose a land shark as well. Y'all's fans love it, it has to do with the football program, and it comes with a hand gestures for the fans. I think that was an obvious choice. honestly, It looks like the PR is full of a bunch idiots at OM.

I agree! Plus, it was a genuine born tradition. It was not a marketing invention like some other "traditions."
