Mike is actually pretty awesome and his habitat is even cooler.
However, I will have to refer you to olden times when bulldogs were bred to fight lions. So I'm sure they could take down a tiger.

Why in the heck does everyone have such unmitigated HATE for the OLE Miss Black Bear? I mean, it's a bear - a pretty generic mascot. Not great, not terrible. Kind of like a Tiger or a dog. Plus, there is the Faulkner connection.
I understand the emotion of Col Reb., but you're going to have to let it go in this PC age when OM is trying (hard) to improve its national image. He's never coming back in an official capacity.

Aubie is easily the most clever and dresses up as other mascots. He's hands down the best costume mascot in the conference.
Mike would have a good claim for best live mascot, although I'm sure Uga and the AU eagles would place too.

Nationally, I vote the following as the best live mascots:
1. Ralphie the Buffalo - Colorado (the mascot has its own entourage).
2. Handsome Dan/UGA - Yale had the original but UGA's is great as well.
3. Bevo - Texas

I like Ralphie, Uga is alright, Bevo is boring.
Uga is a well known mascot so I'm ok with it being so high, but it's a dog that doesn't do anything. At least seeing a Buffalo or Tiger is a unique thing, as would be seeing an eagle do laps around a stadium.
But it just depends on what your criteria is.

Bevo may be boring (it's a cow for heaven's sake) but to most of the country, those horns are pretty unique.

The people outraged at Col Reb are the same people who are still outraged that the school is called "The Rebels" They hate history that they disagree with and hope to ignore it forever. You can't cave in to these people because once you give them an inch, they will take a mile. That's why the Lee High Rebels in BR became the Lee High Patriots, and why the school was torn down, only to be rebuilt and renamed (most likely as Barack Obama High School), sickening.
